Social Media Impacts On Teenage Life

Assalamualaikum. Wr. Wb.

Good morning everybody.
First off, allow many thanks to Allah the Almighty who has been offering us mercy
and true blessing so we could attend this meeting without any obstacles in this terrific
celebration.
Which I respect our English Teacher Mrs. Umi Fadhilah, whom I respect teachers
and staff SMKN 2 Depok, as well as friend I am proud of. Thank you very much to give
me a chance to stand here to talk about how social media impacts on teenage life.
Nowadays, social media is the part of teenagers needs. 90% teenagers in
Indonesia using social media. It’s also supported by the price of the gadget which getting
cheaper and makes teens can easily access social media. Social media gives us a lot of
impacts which is there positive and negative.
Let’s talk about the positive impacts first. Social media connecting with people
who live far away from us. Long distance relationship is not a big deal anymore because
of social media. We can do video call on Skype and see the moments they posted on
Instagram. It makes easier to keep in touch with them. Social media makes us easily to
sharing with others, for example if we have task from school we can discuss about it
with our friends on social media without see them in person. Social media can be the
place for update of news. Teenagers nowadays rarely read newspaper or even never,
but information is not only in the newspaper, it’s also exist on social media. News
spreads easily on social media, so they can still update about the latest news. And social
media can be the field for teenagers to get money. There’s so many online shop which
own by teenagers. It helps teenagers to become independent and reduce asking for
money to parents.
So I think that’s it for the positive impacts. When there are positive there must be
negative.
I think social media gives negative impacts more than positive. For example,
social media has been used as a place for most of the teenagers to show off. They like to
be seen better than others; cooler, prettier, smarter, richer and have more interesting
life. Social media creates such a standard of what’s worth labelled as cool or pretty and
it made teenagers compares themselves to each other and judging others and even
themselves.
Once a teenager think that they didn’t get into that standard, they feel insecure and
think that everyone is better than them. And once a teenager think that they’re one of
those cool famous people on internet, they’ll feel the need to brag more about their life
or their looks just to keep their image and be satisfied. This would caused a jealousy and
more insecurities for the one who isn’t famous or cool or pretty enough. It also caused
hatred and just more problem for both sides. Social media has a powerful impacts for
teenagers life cause what they shares in internet could be judged by other people,
meanwhile teenagers is a very sensitive and emotional age. Teenagers couldn’t think
clearly all the time like adult does, they think negatively most of the times and
somestimes made stupid decision because of it. A lot of of self-harm has happened
because of cyber bullying just because they shared things about them or their life.
Not to mention social media has become so addictive for teenagers. They always spend
hours on social media and even some of them is an antisocial in real life because they’re
too caught up their internet life. So i think it’s fair to say that social media gives more
negativity than positivity. I hope my speech on this day can give benefits to all.
Thank you very much for your attention. I’m sorry if there are any unpleasant
words, have a good day and Wassalamualaikum. Wr. Wb.
