Thank you to the moderator, as we heard even though local eating may have numerous benefits,

there are also some major concerns that criticism cites for a customer to consider which is a food
safety concern.

As we all know smaller farm are often less regulated by the government than large-scale agricultural
operations. This means it is difficult to know how a farm is run and whether items labelled as organic
qualify which that gives question upon the safety of the food product from the local farm. The
standard for the production could be neglected and it could make the food contaminated and stale.
As a result, the consumer will expose to some serious disease such as E. coli, norovirus, and
salmonella which refer to the case in US which is Mexican food chain Chipotle, who, while
attempting to ride the farm-to-table movement wave by sourcing their products from local sources
which now linked with 703 cases pertaining to the problem. it means that local eating doesn't ensure
the safety aspect and could be worst.

the second thing is on the health issue. Many people claim that locally grown food is healthier
compared to commercially grown food. The large-scale operation usually consists of using pesticide,
vaccine, and even modified genetic on crops and the animal. For example, modified genetic chicken
said to be ready to be slaughter in just 45 days. It is faster than the normal one which takes about 24
weeks. Modified foods can cause a harmful effect on the consumer. While food is grown in small,
local farms might be organic or GMO-free depending on government regulations, there is no true
guarantee that crops are raised without pesticides, or without some genetic modification as the
method used by the large-scale farm is faster and cheaper. As a result, critics argue the notion that
local food must be healthy is a largely popularized myth.

the third is about global hunger. Even though local food may give benefit to nature but it may not be
viable for all environments. As in every continent have different climate and environment, the
farming method is also different. But in climates such as the arctic or desert areas, farming can be
difficult, and harvests may not reap enough food to feed a community. For example, Sub-Saharan
Africa where every day more than 1 in 4 people lack adequate food. With no local source available, it
is difficult for the people to feed on and stay alive. In urban area also, many lands have been set a
space for population growth and leave a small area for a local farmer in a metropolitan. Industrial
farming is the solution to this problem and should be handled from now as the global population
expected to hit 9 billion people by 2050.
