An aecIaimed virtuoso and reeording artist, Geoffrey
Applegate madI' his solo debut at age twelve with the San
Diego Symphony, to raye reviews. Bis "especially eloquenC'
artistry (Detroit News) has Ied to collaborations with sueh
artists as Isaae Stern and )ames Toeco, in settings through-
out North Ameriea, Europe and South Ameriea. The leader
of the Detroit Symphony Orehestra's second violín seetion
sinee 1986, he has drawn international attention for his
frequent solo performanees with the OSO, whieh are broad-
east nationally. Mr. Applegate's twenty-eight recordings of
the violín coneerto repertoire for Music Miuus Oue are in
constant demand world-wide, as are his ehamber musie
recordings, whieh appear 011the Koeh International Classies
label. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, Mr. Applegate's violín
studies began at age ten with Rafael Oruian and Sidney
Harth. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of
Musie, where he was a student of Charles Libove, and serves
as adjunet famlty at Wayne State University. In 1995 1\1r.
Applegate joined the aecIaimed SI. Clair Trio as violínist.
Emil Kahn
One of Europe's great twentieth-erntury con-
duetors, Emil Kahn was known for his bril-
líant interprrtations of a vast repertoire, from
baroqur to modemist. Bis reeordings for
Musie Minus One, spalming nearly one hun-
dred albul11s, have become cIassies in their
own right. 1111'author of one of the hand-
books of modrrn conduetors-in-training,
COTlductiTlg (1965), his associations \Iith the
world's finest orehestras and soloists speak of
his legendary standing in the intemational
cIassieal music world.
