Master of Economics programme by research

Applicants for master’s programme by research must possess

a) A bachelor’s degree with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other
institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at
least 2.75 or

b) A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of


higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 2.00 to 2.75 and
relevant work experience; or

c) Any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and

d) Fulfil the English language requirement as set by the university senate

Master of Economics programme by coursework and mixed mode

Applicants for master’s programme by coursework and mixed mode must possess

a) A bachelor’s degree with from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of
higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75 or

b) A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of


higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of less than 2.75
and have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience may be considered,
subject to the interview by Postgraduate Committee; or

c) A diploma from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University


Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, 35 years or older and
passed APEL assessment (level 7); and

d) Fulfil the English language requirement as set by the university senate

The 40-credit-hour Master of Economics (MEc.) is offered by coursework, mixed mode and

1. Register and pass two (2) pre-requisite courses, i.e. SZRZ6014 Research Methodology
and SCLE6014 Academic Writing with at least a B grade before they can pursue their
research work.

2. Defend their proposal to a committee

4. Submit a written thesis
