Briefly describe your family's economic background.

Include information about your

financial challenge.
I grew up with a single mother who is currently raising three children on her own. We’ve always
struggled to make ends meet but, I want to go to college and get a degree so I can be able to help
my mom financially. My mom receives welfare and that is how we get by. We also recycle
bottles and sell them to get some extra money to spend on necessities. As I grew older I realized
the financial situation we were in and it made me realize that I could not depend on my mom to
be supporting me for very long.

Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there
any particular circumstances, school experiences, or persons that influenced your
preparation or motivation to attend college (e.g., cultural/financial background, family,
teachers, schools you attended)? Please explain.
My goal has always been to attend college because it is the next step in the career path I want to
pursue, which is majoring in criminology and eventually working towards my masters to become
a criminal profiler to be able to analyze the behavioral patterns and work with detectives to find
the suspect of a crime. Since my mom did not attend college, she has always told me to do my
best in school to get a good education and get a degree so I do not have to depend on anyone
financially and be able to support myself. I also want to be able to help out my mom.

Briefly discuss your academic background. Did you utilize any additional support at your
high school, such as tutoring? Do your grades in high school and/or college reflect your
academic ability or potential?
My grades do not reflect my academic ability or potential. I believe I could have done much
better than what appears on my transcript. In 9th grade I was going through a rough patch in my
life and my grades slipped up a bit. Even though I tried really hard to not let it affect my grades
slip that much. Once I entered my sophomore year I instantly stepped up and worked harder, I
even joined the basketball team and was able to maintain my grades.
List any volunteer, extracurricular activities, or work experience in which you are or have
been involved in the past two years.
Over the course of the past two years, I have volunteered and have done community service
hours at a Law Office. The law office is called ASOSAL. They help people receive their resident
status here in the US. I helped out by filling out the forms and answering any questions the
clients had. I also have been a part of the Lady Bobcats Basketball team in school for three years
now and was even captain my junior year. I also am apart of a Salvadoran Folklore dance group
where we performt different events. Through these activities, I was able to develop good
communication skills which I believe will be essential to my future career.
Is there any additional information you would like EOP to consider in determining your
admission to the program?
Being part of the Lady Bobcats Basketball team over the past three years has really helped me
learn different skills, such as responsibility, time management, and leadership. Being apart of a
team has really helped me grow as a person. Joining the team I never thought I would grow such
a passion for this sport.
