10 BELIEFS THAT STUDENTS MUST

HAVE IN ORDER TO SUCCEED

BY DANIEL WONG (WWW.DANIEL-WONG.COM)

1. LIFE ISN'T MEANT TO BE EASY

The most meaningful experiences in life are the ones that are challenging. If life
is easy all the time, it means that you're not taking on enough challenges.

2. ATTITUDE MATTERS MORE THAN INTELLIGENCE

As the saying goes, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

3. THE MORE YOU FOCUS ON YOURSELF AND YOUR

PROBLEMS, THE MORE UNHAPPY YOU'LL BE
The more self-centred thoughts you have, the more you'll feel as if your life isn't
what it ought to be. But if you start thinking more about the needs of others and
what you can do to make their lives better, the happier you'll become.

4. NO MATTER HOW HOPELESS THE SITUATION

SEEMS, THERE'S ALWAYS AT LEAST ONE THING YOU
CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION
Train yourself to constantly ask the question, "What is ONE thing I can do NOW
to improve the situation?"

5. BLAMING AND COMPLAINING GETS YOU

NOWHERE
If you find yourself blaming others or complaining about the situation, it means
that you're not using your time and energy effectively.

6. PROGRESS IS WHAT MATTERS, NOT PERFECTION

Nobody is perfect, so don't worry too much about getting a perfect grade or
writing a perfect essay. Instead, focus on making progress and improving, and the
end result will take care of itself.

7. SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS ARE THE ONES WHO DO
WHAT OTHERS AREN'T WILLING TO DO
Successful students are willing to go the extra mile, do the extra question, write
the extra essay, attend the extra review class, consult the teacher one extra
time.

8. GRATITUDE IS THE FOUNDATION OF HAPPINESS

AND SUCCESS
Plenty of research has confirmed this, so start becoming more appreciative and
grateful today.

9. YOU'RE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO MAKE AN IMPACT

Don't believe the lie that just because you're a student, you're just a "kid" who is
too young to make an impact. Find small ways to contribute to your school, family
and community, and you'll become a happier and more successful student.

10. EVERYTHING WORTH DOING TAKES TIME AND

EFFORT
Most of the time, shortcuts are ways in which you shortchange yourself. If you
take shortcuts, you'll learn less, improve less, grow less and succeed less. If
something is worth doing, it means that you'll need to put in lots of effort – that's
a good thing in the long run!
