Drinking coffee has become a part of lifestyle, moreover with
the incoming of international coffee shop chains and the
emerging of local coffee shop in every city in Indonesia.
Therefore, ever since 2015, JAKPAT has been conducting a
survey series regarding to the habit and preference of
drinking coffee, as well as the profile of coffee drinker in
Indonesia. Here is the full survey report for the Drinking
Coffee Survey Series 2017.

All 2543 respondents in this survey are people who admit

that they like and enjoy drinking coffee, or simply called as
coffee lovers.

• Most of respondents usually drink coffee for more than once a day or just once a day.
• Most of respondents usually drink coffee in the morning, at night, or just anytime they want.
• Top 5 coffee variety usually consumed:
1. Cappuccinno
2. Black coffee
3. White coffee
4. Instant coffee
5. Latte

• Majority of the respondents like to make their own coffee by themselves at their house. They also
like to drink it alone at their house or residence.
• Most respondents usually drink coffee while hanging out and chatting with friends, or while doing
some office work or college course-work.
• Most respondents usually buy coffee at local coffee shop.
• Majority of the respondents prefer hot coffee to cold coffee.

• From the survey findings, it can be concluded that “drinking coffee” is a personal
experience for the majority of respondents. It is indicated by how majority of respondents
like to drink coffee alone without companion most of the time. Besides, they also enjoy
drinking coffee at their own house or residence. Moreover, they usually get their coffee by
making it by themselves at their house.
• Apparently, coffee serves as an accompany for not only leisure time (such as hanging out
and chatting with some friends) but also work-related time (such as doing office work or
college course-work.
• Despite many famous international coffee shop chains that open in big cities in Indonesia,
apparently majority of the respondents choose “local coffee shop” as the main place to buy
coffee.
• Among the coffee shop chains, “Starbucks” is the most popular place to buy coffee;
followed by “J.CO” and “Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf”.
• Though Indonesia is a tropical country, apparently the coffee lovers like their coffee hot
rather than to have ice for their coffee.
