1. Venus in Relation to Leo Produced the Emergence of the Individual, Self-
Conscious Man:
“In Leo the intellect or mind became part of the individual man's equipment. This
intellectual awareness is the result of a slow evolution of the instinctual nature which,
when it has reached a certain stage of development, came under the direct influence
of the Hierarchy of the planet in a new way, and then—under the stimulation of
energies from the planet Venus—a fusion took place which resulted in the
emergence of individual self-conscious man.” (EA 179)
2. Venus in Relation to Leo at the Time of Individualization:
“Several major triangles of force were active when individualisation took place and
the ‘Lions, the divine and tawny orange Flames’ came into being and thus humanity
arrived upon the planet. I would touch here briefly upon one triangle: The Sun
(second ray), Jupiter (second ray) and Venus (fifth ray). It will be apparent to you that
we here have another sphere of influence of major importance, governed by Leo. It is
a triangle to which H.P.B. refers in The Secret Doctrine, the influence of which she
was endeavouring to elucidate. So potent was the influence of this triangle that its
effect upon the Moon was to denude her of life by drawing out all the ‘seeds of life,’
thus destroying her influence, for it was undesirable where humanity was
concerned.” (EA 301)
3. Venus in Relation to Leo in the Present World Crisis:
“Leo, as we have seen, is for instance a most important transmitting agency in the
present world crisis. This means, therefore, that Rays I and V are exceedingly active;
it means, secondly, that the Sun's influence is potent, both exoterically and
esoterically. It means also that the planets which are related to these two rays will be
very active and, therefore, that Pluto and Venus are dominant in producing world
results.” (EA 488-489)

Specific Expressions of Venus in Leo

Venus in Leo for the Undeveloped or Average Man

1. Venus in Leo—Personal Magnetism:

When (upon the Mutable Cross) the natural magnetism of Venus combines with the
accentuated ahamkara principle of Leo, much attention is given to making the self as
attractive as possible. The person seeks to be personally magnetic, drawing upon
the desire and attention of others, in order to reinforce the lower personal ego—the
sense of personal selfhood, the sense of really “being someone”.
2. Venus in Leo—Love of Display, Ostentation:
For the undeveloped or average person, this position inclines to the love of
ornamentation and adornment (often gaudy and “loud”)—whatever will call attention
to the little self. The ‘radiance’ of jewelry is, on this lower turn of the spiral,
substituted for the radiance of selfhood, individuality, character, etc. Such behavior is
commonly known as the “desire to shine”. It produces the “dazzling personality”
which masquerades as the real identity (which, thus far, is undiscovered and
unexpressed).
3. Venus in Leo—Fashion:
Venus in Leo represents personal beauty. Fashionable, stylish clothing “catches the
eye”, making ‘everyone’ “take notice”. All eyes follow the one who dresses beautifully.
Again, the personality-center is flattered, stimulated, validated, made to feel more
secure. Fashion becomes a means of self-definition, magnetizing attention, and thus
feeding the lower ego and its sense of self-importance.
4. Venus in Leo—Personal Love and the Love of Being Loved:
Venus is the planet of love and beauty, and Leo is associated with love and love-
affairs (considering such love as the opportunity for the full expression of selfhood).
Personal love is self-exalting, enhancing both the sensitivity to beauty and the sense
of “I-ness”. Such love is more the “love of being loved” than the selfless love of the
heart; it satisfies various personal desires—for recognition, for pleasure, for
companionship, for absorbing interest (which reduces stress). Love at this level of
expression flatters the lower ego, making it feel special and important.
5. Venus in Leo—Vanity and Love of Flattery:
Venus is the “mirror” and lower Leo inclines towards self-admiration. Self-image
looms overly large within the field of consciousness. Good appearance, as a means
of ego-reinforcement, becomes all important. The Venusian mind is captured by the
ahamkara principle, and the sense of selfhood is invested entirely in the form.
6. Venus in Leo—the Eyes are on the Personal Self:
One of the first principles of discipleship training is to “take the eyes off the little
personal self”. At first this is not easy for the person with an accentuated Venus in
Leo. Historically, Venus and Leo together were instrumental in the emergence of
“reflective consciousness”—individualization. Through individualization, animal man
was able to recognize himself as a distinct existence within the field of numberless
moving forms. Within his field of consciousness, he isolated a familiar object (his
body, with its sensations, feelings and emotions). The self-center was born. The
growth of the personal ego, the “I-center” is evolutionarily necessary, and,
necessarily, will be sustained for millions of years. Eventually, however,
decentralization must develop, if personal consciousness is to become group
consciousness. Ahamkara, however, is stubborn, repeatedly attracting
consciousness towards the self-center. For the Venus in Leo person upon the
Mutable Cross, this pattern of excessive self-awareness is characteristic. It
represents a constant referencing of the identity (and usually a very superficial part
of that identity) in order to promote a sense of personal security. Behind this behavior
is the fear of a “loss of self”.
7. Venus in Leo— “Sweetheart”:
This is a term of endearment directly related to the Venus in Leo energies. Venus
rules all things sweet, attractive and appealing; Leo rules the heart and the heart
center. A “sweetheart” is a totally attractive loved-one—just what the Venus in Leo
person hopes to become, and just the kind to whom the Venus in Leo person hopes
 to relate. ‘Love’ among “sweethearts” brings the lower self into its fullest state of self-
expression and self-enjoyment.
8. Venus in Leo—Spontaneous Emotion:
Saturn (the energy which restrains) is weakened in Leo (unless its very deep,
Shamballic connection to this sign is considered). Leo people do not like to “hold
back” their expression. Venus, before it becomes a mental indicator, is associated
with the preferences and evaluative feeling function (“like and dislike”) of the astral
body. Venus-in-Leo people desire the pleasurable, unrestrained release of feeling
and emotion.
9. Venus in Leo—Personal Enjoyment:
This can be a light-hearted combination with a sunny disposition. Superficially, Venus
inclines towards the love of pleasure, and Leo towards exuberant, free expression.
This can simply mean loving to be in harmonious company where one can “be
entirely oneself”.
10. Venus in Leo—Emphasis upon the “Pleasure Principle”:
Pleasure is unrestrained expression which maximally enhances the power and
harmony of that which expresses. Every system in nature seeks to be more and
more fully itself, without interference. Venus in Leo seeks total harmony (Venus)
within the ‘self-system’ (Leo). This is pleasure, and comes precisely from doing
exactly and uninhibitedly what one loves to do—without interference. Such people
simply love to “enjoy themselves”.
11. Venus in Leo—Association with the Very First Phases of Intelligence: the
Implantation of the Spark of Mind: Venus in Leo describes the very earliest phases
of the coming of the Lords of the Flame. The first, faint flickers of self-consciousness
occur under these influences. Leo is the sign, not only of individuality, but of
individualization. Venus, of course, relates to the Solar Angel and to that part of the
Solar Angel which was “put down” upon the higher mental plane and even to that
depth of immersion we call the physical human brain.

Venus in Leo for the Advanced Man

1. Venus in Leo—Focused Intellect:

Venus transmits the fifth ray, as does Leo. Both are strongly involved in the
individualization process—the birth of self-consciousness and mind. Leo, further, is
associated with the process of “concentration” in the process of meditation; thus, Leo
is a centralizing influence. Venus is centripetal (compared to Mars’ ‘centrifugality’)
thus, also, drawing to the center. Under this combination, the advanced man gathers
his mental forces, concentrates them, and focuses them upon whatever must be
clarified and illumined. There is much self-consciousness in the use of the mind, and
the man knows just what he is thinking.
2. Venus in Leo—Spontaneous Joyfulness in Expression:
The natural, exuberant expressiveness of Leo and the qualities of love and
appreciation characteristic of Venus, combine as spontaneous, joyful, self-
expression. The personality becomes increasingly radiatory and magnetic, attractive
and expressive—increasingly an instrument for expressing happiness and well-
being.
3. Venus in Leo—Beginning the Process of Thinking within the Heart:
Leo and Venus are both associated with mind and heart. For the advanced man,
 thought is easily concentrated under this influence; the capacity to enter the identity
of others also begins to grow. Venus is contemplative, which means that it
understands as if from within. Leo rules both the isolated self, and its relinquishment
in favor of a higher Self which includes the selves of others. This inclusiveness is a
function of the heart center with which, again, both Leo and Venus can be associated
—Leo, directly, and Venus, indirectly. To think within the heart is to think in the
context of unitive relationship while the magnetism of the heart is at work. This
process begins in the life of the advanced human being, continues with greater force
in the life of the disciple and comes to fruition in the life of the initiate.
4. Venus in Leo—Warm-Heartedness:
This combination easily expresses warmth of heart (although much will depend upon
the predominating rays). Warmth will be less likely when the fifth ray is strongly
accented and more likely under the second ray. The ray of the individual will draw
forth differing ray potentials from the combination. Venus confers affection and love
—Leo, expression and display. The expected result (all things being equal)—a
loving, warm-hearted display of affection.
5. Venus in Leo—Impressive, Spectacular Expression:
Venus represents the treasures and abilities stored within the causal body; Leo
represents the need to express these abilities. This manifests first as the “talented
individual”, the one who is “gifted” and rich in qualities. Under this combination, these
abilities shine forth for all to see. When ego is strong (and “advanced” human beings
frequently have a strong ego) this can lead to “showiness” and self-conscious
display. In any case, one’s talents, gifts and light are not “hidden under a bushel”.
6. Venus in Leo—Heart’s Desires Align Increasingly with Soul Desires:
Although desires, per se, are of the solar plexus, the heart and solar plexus are
directly related. The heart, per se, is an “impersonal” organ, conduces to group
consciousness, and does not desire selfishly. For practical purposes, however, we
can name one’s most meaningful desires, the “heart’s desires”, because these
desires are found at the core of our personal functioning. Venus in Leo has a
personal meaning, as we have discussed, but also a definite resonance with the
Solar Angel and the causal body. Increasingly the desires of the personality are lifted
into the brilliant light of Venus and Leo, and, thus, re-oriented to serve the heart and
soul. This is, of course, consummated on the Path of Initiation.

Venus in Leo for the Disciple/Initiate

1. Venus in Leo—a Powerful Combination for the Expression of Soul Light:

Venus expresses the fifth ray and the second ray—the two rays of greatest
luminosity. Leo expresses the “Will to Illumine”, transmits the fifth ray, and is
associated with the second divine aspect (Consciousness) (EA 194) Further, Leo
expresses the “Light of the Soul” (EA 293, 329) Under this combination (for the
Disciple/Initiate), soul light is intense
2. Venus in Leo—Luminous Self-Awareness:
Leo inclines towards progressive self-awareness. Venus governs “reflective
consciousness” (the one who is conscious realizes the he is conscious): this
realization makes self-awareness possible. The light generated by this luminous
combination is shed upon the S/self and its processes, which are clearly revealed in
that light.
3. Venus in Leo—Strong Powers of Concentration; a Mind that can Focus the
Light:
Venus is the “burning glass” which focusses light into an intense, potentially ‘ignitive’
beam. In the process of meditation, Leo rules the stage of concentration. Thus,
concentration and focus are conferred by both influences. Under Venus in Leo, soul
light readily illumines the mind, which focusses that light into a concentrated stream
for purposes of revelation and discovery within the three lower worlds. This
combination is one of those which leads to the development of a “mind held steady in
the light”.
4. Venus in Leo—Dissipation of Glamor through the Light of the Soul:
The fifth ray (so pronounced in this combination) is extremely useful in the Technique
of Light for the dissipation of glamor. The soul-inspired, illumined mentality is positive
to the glamorous and distorting forces.
5. Venus in Leo—the Union of Heart and Mind:
Venus is unique among planets for a balanced emphasis of heart and mind. Leo, too,
emphasizes both the heart and mind (as well as the will). Together, these two
influences work for the union of the second and third aspects of divinity—the love-
wisdom aspect, and the mental aspect.
6. Venus in Leo—a Link between the Ajna Center and the Heart Center:
The ajna center is the center of expression for the integrated personality, and the
heart center (among others) for the soul. Although zodiacal signs have a pervasive
effect on many centers, Leo is especially associated with the heart center and Venus
with the ajna center. Thus it can be seen how this combination is useful in integrating
soul and personality. Leo represents both the dominant personality and the
potentially dominant soul. The dominant personality can be thought of as relating to
the Mars in Leo; the dominant soul (dominant and powerful because of its irresistible
magnetism) as relating to Venus in Leo. It is as if Venus acts a bridge between the
higher Leo soul function and the lower Leo personality function.
7. Venus in Leo—Rendering the Light and Love of the Soul Visible; the Display of
Soul Values and Soul Light: With this combination we have, potentially, a
magnificent display of the full radiant potential of the soul through the personality.
This display is a blend of all that is stunning and beautiful. The soul-in-manifestation
commands attention.
8. Venus in Leo—Dramatization of Soul Life:
Under the influence of Venus in Leo we have the possibility of the full dramatization
of the life of the soul through the personality. The soul becomes both the playwright
and the actor, and the personality—the role. Life becomes an exciting and beautiful
performance—an arresting example for those spectators who “look on”.
9. Venus in Leo—Epitomizes the Solar Angels (the “Hearts of Fiery Love”):
This combination strongly emphasizes the nature and mission of the Solar Angels.
The Solar Angels came from and return to the “Heart of the Sun”, and Venus (as well
as the Venus chain of the Earth scheme, and the Venus globe of the Earth chain)
plays a significant role in impulsing their coming and determining their mission on
earth. The Solar Angels are “Hearts of Fiery Love”; although their Hierarchy is ruled
by Capricorn (the tenth sign—double five), the connection of their Hierarchy (the fifth
manifested Hierarchy) to the fifth ray of Venus and to the fifth ray of Leo (the fifth
sign and ruler of the fiery heart) can readily be seen. Significantly, the initial entry of
these fiery Angels (under Venusian inspiration) into the process of human evolution
occurred during a precessional period when the Sun was in Leo. (cf. EA 64)
10. Venus in Leo—the Attainment of Causal Consciousness and a Measure of
Solar Angelic Consciousness: Both Venus and Leo are intimately related to the
causal body. Under the influence of Venus, the causal body serves as the repository
of all higher earth-garnered values. Under Leo, the causal body is the solar home of
the higher Self. Under the influence of Venus in Leo, the Solar Angel (and its
instrument of expression—the causal body) become a luminous presence in the
consciousness of the personality. There is a tendency, not only to focus the mind
steadily in the light of the soul, but to raise the focus of consciousness until it can
polarized itself within the causal body. Personal consciousness becomes
transpersonal consciousness. The meditator enters the realm of the fifth kingdom.
11. Venus in Leo—Soul Identity Perceived as the Real Identity:
As causal consciousness grows, there is a refocussing of the sense of identity. No
longer does the disciple/initiate identify as a personality. The focus of identity centers
‘above’ the personality, upon the higher mental plane (which is the true domain of
Venus—planet of the soul). The second phase of the Leonian influence (the
“Revealing Point”) emerges. (cf. EA 332) The disciple knows he is the higher Self.
12. Venus in Leo—Strong Expression of Soul Magnetism:
The soul is inherently attractive. The Sun (a symbol of the soul) is actually a magnet.
There is an irresistible magnetism which comes from beauty of soul. Though Venus
in Leo can represent strictly personal magnetism upon the Mutable Cross, upon the
Fixed Cross, it should represent the magnetism of the soul functioning through the
personality. The beauty and luminosity of soul life demonstrate under the influence of
this combination. Many may be attracted to the resultant light and love, inspired,
thereby, to live a soul-inspired life. The disciple’s own personal consciousness is
attracted to the source of loving luminosity within him. He is magnetized by the
soul/Solar Angel and no longer seeks to be released from this magnetism.
13. Venus in Leo—Luminous Auric Display; Luminous Vestments
There is something splendid about this combination. Venus in Leo is a symbol of the
solarization of the personal life. (Venus in Capricorn is another such symbol—
associated with a, perhaps, still higher degree of solarization). Under Venus in Leo,
the entire aura becomes luminous in response to the causal luminosity promoted by
this combination of influences. The causal body is the “Temple of Solomon”. From
another perspective, the glorious display of the fully developed causal body is
“Solomon [the Solar Man] in all His glory” (to which the Christ referred when
speaking of the “lilies of the field”—“Not Solomon in all His glory was arrayed as one
of these.” Venus in Leo, then, is the “Robe of Glory” which means, at the very least,
the fully resplendent causal vehicle. How interesting that, on a lower turn of the
spiral, this combination is associated with outer raiment, with all that is beautiful in
clothing. We might say that the right use by the disciple/initiate of the Venus in Leo
energy helps him “put on his robe of glory”. This combination can move the disciple
or initiate towards transfiguration, and may even be useful beyond that point—for the
causal body is not destroyed until the fourth initiation, and grows in glory until that
point. One can even see the applicability of this energy to the fifth initiation, which
may very well involve the brilliant, revelatory energy of the fifth sign, Leo. There is no
easy way to limit a specific astrological combination to only a certain level of
functioning. Certain processes at certain levels may be most characteristic of a given
combination, but possibilities for the combination’s usefulness exist both before and
after its most characteristic level of application. The splendid vehicle - the robe of
glory because Venus has everything to do with that which is
14. Venus in Leo—the Full Flowering of the Egoic Lotus:
The egoic lotus is a flower. A fully evolved human being is “in full flower”, which
means that the egoic lotus has fully unfolded, or flowered. Leo, sympathetically, rules
“sun flowers”, and, certainly, the egoic lotus is a kind of “sun flower” upon the higher
mental plane. Venus, too, relates closely to the process of flowering. Venus is the
planet most associated with the vegetable kingdom, and relates most to the
beautiful, colorful, fragrant flowers there to be found—and to the essences of these
flowers. Flower essences definitely fall under the generic rulership of Venus.
15. Venus in Leo—Definite Association with the Fifth Petal of the Egoic Lotus:
Venus transmits the fifth ray. Leo is the fifth sign and also transmits the fifth ray. As a
combination, Venus in Leo powerfully emphasizes the number five, and thus has
numerical affinity with the fifth petal of the egoic lotus within the causal body. “The
Ego [Solar Angel] takes no active interest in the development until the second petal
in the second series is beginning to open.” (TCF 543) This second petal in the
second series is, of course, the fifth petal. (see also TCF 738, 757, 907) When
subjective soul research becomes possible, it would be interesting to see the degree
to which a Venus in Leo position is involved in the stimulation, organization and
unfoldment of the fifth petal.
16. Venus in Leo—Specific Soul Identity:
Leo rules the true identity of the human entity (though Gemini may actually confer
the name). Venus in Leo stands for the essence (Venus) of identity (Leo). The soul
name, the soul note, the soul color—these sound forth, these radiate—clearly and
accurately (fifth ray), revealing exactly who one is as a soul.
17. Venus in Leo—a Symbol of the Early “God-Kings”:
The early God Kings (Leo), were Venusian Beings (Venus). At least They were from
those aspects of our Earth scheme most en rapport with Venus and named after Her.
They brought all manner of enlightenment and culture to infant humanity. They
generously bestowed upon that early race the gifts of the solar realms. Venus in Leo
is the symbol of those times when the Venusian Gods walked among men. In
modern times, it represents the possibility that many members of today’s humanity
can become like “God-Kings” to a future infant human race requiring soul culture.
18. Venus in Leo—Related to the Ajna Center as a Focus for Identity:
Venus rules the ajna center; Leo stands for the integrated personality, and the ajna
center is the center of direction for the integrated personality. Therefore, Leo must
have a strong influence upon the ajna center.

The fact that many people wear jewelry on their forehead, is a symbol of the
forehead as a point of identity. The perfectly formed jewel symbolizes what might be
called the ‘crystal of identity’. Each identity (archetypally) is like a perfectly formed
jewel—different from every other such. The ajna center (the one center
predominantly influenced by the fifth ray—again Venus and Leo) is instrumental in
defining identity, for the fifth ray separates the self from the not-self, thus defining the
self.

Further, identity is related to quality. According to garnered and organized quality is

the pattern of identity known. Such quality is the province of Venus. Differences in
quality-patterns account for differences in identity. The ajna center determines which
choices are made in the gathering of quality. One is harvesting quality and thus
building identity with every choice that is made. Choice (within the personality of the
disciple/initiate) is made at the bi-polar ajna center. Venus, ruler of the ajna center, is
 the discernment which guides choice. Discernment depends upon the sense of
values—again ruled by Venus.

Venus in Aquarius

Venus in Aquarius or Venus in Relation to Aquarius

(from Esoteric Astrology)

1. Venus Rules the Last Decanate of Aquarius:

“The decanates in Aquarius are governed (according to Alan Leo) by Saturn, Mercury
and Venus, and the effect that they will produce upon human affairs and world
conditions is already beginning to appear. … When the task of Saturn and of Mercury
has been accomplished, then during the third decanate, Venus, which is the union of
heart and mind, will usher in the long hoped for era of love-wisdom, of brotherhood
and of expressed brotherly relationships. Opportunity— Illumination—Brotherhood:
these are the gifts that Shamballa is planning to confer upon mankind during the
Aquarian Age, if man will but prepare for them, accept them, and use them. Only the
future will make clear man's reaction.” (EA 149)
2. Venus in Relation to Aquarius—Demonstrating as Sex:
The energy which produces opportunity, illumination, and brotherly love as
expressed and attained upon the Fixed Cross, demonstrates upon the Mutable or
Common Cross as difficulty, the versatile and volatile mind (unstable and dark) and
as sex.
3. Venus in Relation to Aquarius—Intelligent Brotherhood
“Christ was born in Capricorn, fulfilled the law under Saturn, initiated the era of
intelligent brotherhood under Venus and is the perfect example of the Capricornian
initiate who becomes the world Server in Aquarius, and the world Saviour in Pisces,
thus completing the round of the zodiac and able to say triumphantly in Pisces ‘It is
finished’.”
4. Venus in Relation to Aquarius—Brotherly Love:
“From the standpoint of astrological interpretation and in the case where the
astrologer is not sure which way the wheel is turning, it is the only decanate with its
ruler of which he can be sure. The influence of the ruler is, therefore, inevitable. This
is strikingly the case in connection with the sign Aquarius into which sign our sun is
now entering, its three decanates, Saturn, Mercury and Venus, bringing inevitably
difficulty, illumination and brotherly love.” (EA 172)
5. Venus in Relation to Aquarius—the Brotherly Love which is Wisdom:
“The three decanates of Aquarius, from the angle of the disciple, are Saturn,
Mercury and Venus. It is in this sequence that they affect him and carry him forward
on his desired way, thus giving opportunity through conflict, the illumination of the
mind and eventually the achievement of brotherly love which is wisdom.” (EA 283)
6. Venus in Relation to Aquarius—Instinctual Mind or Affection, which is
Brotherly Love in Embryo:
“Ordinarily speaking, the mass of men would pass through the sign via Venus,
Mercury and Saturn, for the undeveloped man is influenced by those qualities which
 can be best described as instinctual mind or affection (Venus), which is brotherly love
in embryo;…” (EA 282)
7. Non-thinking People Entering Aquarius via Venus:
“Humanity—as a whole and owing to the large proportion of aspirants and thinking
idealists—is entering Aquarius, via the open door of Saturn. At the same time, a very
large number of men are in the non-thinking instinctual stage and their
consciousness is predominantly Atlantean. These enter via Venus and hence the
conflict.” (EA 283)
8. Venus in Aquarius—Achieving Brotherly Love:
(In order to achieve brotherly love, the soul wants the personality to do the following
--- and the tasks can then be described according to the nature of the sign in which
Venus is found.)

Specific Expressions of Venus in Aquarius

Venus in Aquarius for the Average or Undeveloped Man

1. Venus in Aquarius—Indiscriminate, Extroverted ‘Love’ and Affection:

Upon the early Mutable Cross Aquarius is a sign of superficial extroversion; Venus
functions as instinctual mind or affection. Under this combination, ‘love’ and affection
will be given to many, but there is no real depth to it.
2. Venus in Aquarius—Superficial Sociability:
Aquarius is one of the social and sociable signs, giving contact with many people;
Venus, at this stage of evolution, is pleasant, attractive, magnetic. This combination
is, therefore, a gregarious influence. The person is drawn to gather with others, to
socialize, meeting, thus, the Venusian need for affiliation and union
3. Venus in Aquarius—Unconventional Relationships:
Aquarius, ruled exoterically by Uranus, is a sign of deviation from the norm—for good
or ill. Venus, at this stage of evolution, functions to draw people into relation. Under
this combination, relationships will often be unusual, unconventional, even strange
by normal standards. Aquarius expresses freedom from tradition and Venus is swept
by this freedom, drawn and delighted by those who are not bound by convention.
4. Venus in Aquarius—‘Groupiness’:
Aquarians on the early and middle Mutable Cross are weak in ‘self definition’—the
province of Leo. They seem to gain their sense of identity from their associates and
associations. They love to aggregate and congregate. The underlying thought might
be expressed as follows: ‘Because we are together, I am.’ :The magnetic power of
Venus only adds to these tendencies. Pleasure and enjoyment (the qualities of
Venus) are found with and within the group.
5. Venus in Aquarius—Group ‘Love’ as Group Sex:
Aquarius has a close connection to the physical plane through its rulership of the
seventh manifested Creative Hierarchy. For early Aquarius, “desire in form [is] ruler”.
Venus as the ruler of the first decanate of Aquarius (for the average or undeveloped
man) represents the energy of sex. Since in Aquarius love is widely and (at this
stage) indiscriminately shared, this position can (when augmented by unfavorable
aspects) degenerate into orgy and group sex.
6. Venus in Aquarius—“Highs and Lows” in Relationship: :
Although Aquarius has a reputation for aloofness, it is also an emotional sign: “This
sign, that of the water-carrier, is a living sign and an emotional sign.” (EA 313) Early
Aquarius can bring many instabilities, many “highs and lows”, and in extreme cases,
and when reinforced by the fourth ray, manic-depression, Venus, at this relatively
early stage, represents the energy of attraction (and repulsion). Is one “in love” or
not “in love”. If we combine the fluctuations of Aquarius with the attractions and
repulsions of Venus, we find the potential for and unsettled astral condition with
many emotional instabilities in relationship.
7. Venus in Aquarius—the Club:
Clubs are associations of people which are gathered on the basis of some
distinguishing feature which they share in common. They drawn together (Venus) for
a shared purpose (Aquarius)—be that purpose trivial or profound. Under this the
influence of this combination, the associated people like each other because they are
like each other. - loving each other because they are like each other again a
limitation of the love aspect. Such arrangements are often exclusive; love is shared
among those who reflect each other, and not with those who are different.
8. Venus in Aquarius—Friends as Lovers; Lovers as Friends
What is the difference between a friend and a lover? For some there is a great
difference; for others, hardly any difference at all. Venus-in-Aquarius persons often fit
into this latter category. They seek flowing, non-binding relationships—such as those
more frequently found among friends than lovers. They may have difficulty
discriminating between the two, but are not troubled by this, and do not consider it a
difficulty. Under favorable circumstances their attitude to love is friendly and non-

9. Venus in Aquarius—Difficulty Finding the Self in Relationships:
Venus in Aquarius people may have difficulty finding their own identity in
relationships because, initially, their sense of self is weak. If two people who do not
really know themselves well fall into relationship, they will necessarily demonstrate a
degree of superficiality towards each other. They will often justify their association
with some reason having little to do with their true natures, for instance—“We both
belong the same biking club so we have a lot in common.” Affection will remain
superficial and extroverted until Venus (the intelligent mind) turns self-reflective and
self-illuminating.
10. Venus in Aquarius—Fear of Intimacy:
Unconsciously, the average Aquarian knows that he or she lacks depth. The planet
Venus usually attracts towards intimacy, but in Aquarius, the attraction may be
dispersed and diversified for the very purpose of avoiding intimacy. Intimacy is self
revealing, and somehow, it may be revealed that there is less to oneself than one
thought. If, for the average Aquarian, all the wares are in the front window, intimacy
may reveal that there is very little in the store behind. This could be a threatening
and self-minimizing realization, which is avoided by refusing to get really close and
personal with others.
11. Venus in Aquarius—Popularity, Sociability:
Venus is magnetic and Aquarius reaches many people. People with this combination
may appear attractive to many. They will have the “love of the crowd” (especially if
the Cancer or the Moon is also emphasized). Celebrities and all those within the
public eye, can only be helped by this combination if popularity is what they desire.
12. Venus in Aquarius—Personal Reinforcement through Extensive Association:
How is ego-strength built? One can give approval to oneself, or, more usually, one
can seek it from others. Love (Venus) reinforces the sense of personal identity. With
Venus in Aquarius, the person craves this kind of appreciative reinforcement from
many rather than few, and certainly not from himself alone. This attitude could be
expressed as, “Many (Aquarius) love me (Venus) , therefore, I must be someone.”
13. Venus in Aquarius—the Spread of Venereal Disease:
We live in a period of world history when the various venereal diseases, always
dangerous and at times destructive, have now become life-threatening. Venus is,
naturally, the ruler of venereal diseases; the word “venereal” derives, in fact, from the
word “Venus”. Aquarius, the great sign of sharing, is also the sign of epidemics.
Average humanity is entering the Age of Aquarius via the decanate ruled by Venus.
The current AIDS epidemic (which reminds all people that the blood of humanity is
one blood) is correlated to the power of Venus in the first (third) decanate.
14. Venus in Aquarius—Miscellaneous:

Aquarius disperses and is the sign of decentralization. The vibrancy of

Venus in Aquarius for the Advanced Man

1. Venus in Aquarius—Group Harmony and Peace:

Aquarius is the sign of the group and Venus the planet of love and harmony.
Individuals with this combination are frequently the peace-makers and harmonizers
within the group setting. Their pleasant, non-confrontational attitudes help preserve
the group cohesion they so highly value.
2. Venus in Aquarius—Appreciating the Quality of Group Members:
For the advanced man, Aquarius gives more tolerance for diversity; it give positive
appreciation. Eventually, Venus confers the ability to see the soul in others, but even
for the advanced man, it gives a capacity to see the good, and in general, that which
is of value in other people. Venus in Aquarius recognizes and appreciates quality and
does not hesitate to say so. This appreciative attitude, naturally, brings out the best
in people.
3. Venus in Aquarius—Group Integration:
Integration within a group is dependent upon clear group purpose, mutual
appreciation, and the avoidance of disruptive frictions. The combination Venus and
Aquarius contributes to these three; it brings clarity of mind, appreciation of quality in
others, and the power to harmonize. Group members functioning under this
combination are, customarily, agents for group integration.
4. Venus in Aquarius—the Ability to Harmonize Diversity:
One tendency of the Aquarian energy is to level difference and standardize diversity.
In the advanced man, there emerges an appreciation of diversity, and a capacity to
unify differences, or to see diversity as complementary to unity. There is a growing
love for people in their own right, and despite the fact that they might deviate from
 more conventional expectations. This combination, therefore, can help very different
people not only “get along”, but become part of a really effective, harmoniously
functioning team.
5. Venus in Aquarius—Unity within Diversity:
Venus works for unity; Aquarius (ruled by individualistic Uranus) brings diversity—at
least once a more advanced evolutionary level has been achieved. Toleration and,
even, appreciation for diversity are not enough to produce a team; that diversity must
be unified by means of intelligence and love (two qualities exemplary of Venus).
Venus radiates a kind of magnetism which fills all group members with a constructing
sense of belonging; this keeps them working harmoniously for a common group
ideal.
6. Venus in Aquarius—Loving Friendship:
For the advanced Aquarius, love and friendship are united. Friends are loved as true
friends, and lovers, too, are loved as friends. Relationships are non-binding and
promote the emergence of individual quality.
7. Venus in Aquarius—Sharing:
The Age of Aquarius will be the Age of Sharing. Sharing is usually considered a
positive action, but illusions, glamors, destructive etheric patterns and diseases can
also be shared. Generally however, both Venus and Aquarius are energies which
give. Venus represents the sharing of garnered quality and Aquarius the wide-spread
distribution of all energies. Under Venus in Aquarius the purpose of sharing is to
enhance the quality of those among whom the sharing occurs. In short, such sharing,
motivated by love, enhances group life.
8. Venus in Aquarius—the Scientific Mind:
Interestingly both Venus and Aquarius are distributors of the fifth ray. Venus
represents the intelligent mind and Aquarius often represents science—especially
science as the progressive thought of humanity. Today’s science is collaborative; it is
a group endeavor. In many ways, the scientific mind is the group mind, which Venus
in Aquarius certainly enhances.
9. Venus in Aquarius—the Creative Mind:
Aquarius is one of the signs in which the Ray of Creative Intelligence is strong;
always, new solutions emerge from Aquarius. Venus represents the creativity as the
emergent pattern of the soul. Whether or not the advanced man believes in the soul,
he will certainly believe in the mind and its creative potential. This combination is
open to higher inspiration, bringing through values which the world considers “new”,
but which are already resident within the higher human faculties which both Venus
and Aquarius represent, and with which they have resonance and rapport.
10. Venus in Aquarius—Love of Culture; Culture and the Arts:
Culture is, in many important respects, Aquarian. It arises from the creativity of the
group—from the best efforts of many creative individuals. Venus stands for culture as
the cultivation and preservation of quality. Venus in Aquarius represents cultural
values (Venus) held in common (Aquarius), and the appreciation and enjoyment of
those values. Whereas Venus in Leo may represent the beauty of individual works of
art, or the works of distinct and distinctive creative individuals, Venus in Aquarius
represents the beauty created by an entire society, and an appreciation of that
beauty.
11. Venus in Aquarius—Cultural and Cultured Groups:
Just as Aquarius governs the idea of the “club”, and Venus helps unite and integrate
such associations, on a higher turn of the spiral, Venus in Aquarius represents those
 groups which come together for the appreciation, enjoyment, promotion and
preservations of the highest cultural values of society. Every society produces its
“fruits” representing its highest values. These fruits are exemplary works of beauty
and quality. Venus in Aquarius governs those cultured groups which keep these
values alive, reminding the members of any society of the highest and most refined
products of its collective labors.
12. Venus in Aquarius—Group Creativity:
The Piscean Age has been an historical period in which many creative individuals
have emerged, making their contribution to humanity. Venus is always associated
with this creativity, just as the soul (which Venus represents in the chart) is,
fundamentally, the creative factor in the life of the personality. The soul is group
conscious and Venus promotes this group consciousness. Similarly, Aquarius is the
sign which, more than any other, promotes group consciousness. Combining these
ideas, we find the emergence of group creativity, first for reasons that serve the
personalities of the various group members, and later, for soul-inspired purposes.
13. Venus in Aquarius—the Artistic Ensemble:
The term “ensemble” means, essentially, “together”. Venus rules the arts. Both
Venus and Aquarius bring people together for creative purposes. A number of art
forms—for instance, dance, theatre, music—most frequently require an ensemble for
their presentation. Venus in this sign stands for the ability to put group values first in
the creation and presentation of works of beauty and cultural significance.

Venus in Aquarius for the Disciple-Initiate Man

1. Venus in Aquarius—the Aquarian Christ; Christ within the Group:

Venus (with Jupiter and Neptune) is a planet of love-wisdom. Christ is the “Morning
Star”—Venus. In other ways, Christ is both Neptune and Jupiter. Venus promotes
group consciousness which is, essentially, “Christ Consciousness” and Aquarius is
the sign of the group. When Venus is functioning positively in relation to Aquarius, we
have the love and illumined energy of the Christ working powerfully within the group.
2. Venus in Aquarius—Soul Consummation Beyond Venus in Capricorn:
The soul body is not destroyed until the fourth initiation. Venus in Capricorn
represents the third initiation as a culminating moment, but (with respect to the soul)
not an absolutely consummating moment. Soul development actually continues
beyond the third initiation, and it is this consummation (leading to the moment of the
Great Renunciation) which Venus in Aquarius can represent (for the initiate).
Aquarius is a sign of penultimate fulfillment (Pisces being the sign of ultimate
fulfillment). Venus is raised in Aquarius to a point of consummation, though a still
greater consummation is symbolized by Venus in Pisces. How interesting that Venus
should be so spiritually powerful in the last three signs of the zodiac!
3. Venus in Aquarius—Group Love-Wisdom:
Venus can represent “pure love wisdom” (EA 281) In the Aquarian group setting, it
unifies all aspects of group life—etheric body, emotional body, lower and higher mind
—under the pure love-wisdom of the group soul, and, eventually, of the Hierarchy,
itself.
4. Venus in Aquarius—Group Light:
Venus is from our little geocentric perspective, the brightest planet. As far as our
Earth is concerned, Venus is truly the light-bearer. Venus (planet of the group-
 conscious soul) is also the light-bearer to the Aquarian group. The new Aquarian
groups can become instruments for the distribution of soul light through the illumined
group mind.
5. Venus in Aquarius—Unified Group Mind:
The mind of the individual is often at odds with itself; this is ever more true of the
mind of the group. The ideal exists, however, and Hierarchy represents that ideal—
the unified, triadically-inspired group mind. The Hierarchy is an Aquarian Body and
(even given the differing perspectives of its members) thinks as one. Under the
influence of Venus and Aquarius, disciples learn to emulate the higher initiates; they
learn to create an harmonious, invocative group mind which evokes light from the
higher sources of light. Venus in Aquarius promotes such a harmonious circulation of
thought among the minds of the group, that a process of fusion begins, and before
long, thought becomes the thought of the group, and not the thought of any one
individual within the group. This fusion is the creation of group mind.
6. Venus in Aquarius—Unified Group-Soul Consciousness:
Under the influence of Leo, the disciple/initiate understands himself as an individual,
or later as an individualized soul—still later as the One. Under Aquarius (and
especially when Venus, the planet of the soul, lends its energy), the disciple/initiate
understands himself as the group. Before he thinks, “I”, he thinks, “We”—at least
when Aquarius and Venus have done their work of decentralization. With individual
ego-identity subdued, soul identity can emerge, and soul is ever group conscious.
Venus in Aquarius is one of the preeminent signs of group-soul consciousness. It
promotes an awareness of all group members as one consciousness and one being.
7. Venus in Aquarius—the Soul-Infused Group Personality:
Venus is symbolically the soul, which must infuse the personality (symbolically
represented by a number of planets—the Sun, the Moon, the Earth, Mars and
Saturn. Venus in Aquarius is particularly related to the group soul, but, as well, is
shows a special facility for creating the soul-infused group personality. Aquarius
represents the free circulation of all forces through the personality vehicles, and
Venus ensures that this circulation will be balanced, harmonious and in line with a
higher and more ideal pattern.
8. Venus in Aquarius—Intelligent Brotherhood Based upon Appreciation;
Brotherly Love: We are told that Venus (as ruler of the last decanate of Aquarius)
will inaugurate the era of intelligent brotherhood. This is far different from mindless,
sentimentally affectionate togetherness. Venus is the intelligent mind, and at this
stage, the intelligent soul-infused mind, which confers upon the individual the
capacity to see, understand and venerate the soul nature of his brother. Under this
combined influence, all human being are understood as arising from a common
spiritual origin; not only are they are “of one blood”, but they are of one soul and one
spirit. Thus, they (factually) inseparably united to each other. Venus in Gemini also
indicates brotherhood, and so does Venus in Libra, but Venus in Aquarius (the
pervasive sign) ensures that the sense of brotherhood extends to one and all.
9. Venus in Aquarius—the Light and Love of the Ashram:
Aquarius is the sign most associated with Hierarchy, and equally with those sub-
divisions of the Hierarchy, the Ashrams. Each Ashram is an Aquarian association,
society, family, fellowship—many are the possible names. Each Ashram comes
generically under Venus—the planet from our initiatory regime originated. Each
Ashram is, essentially, as distributor of Venusian light and love. The Ashram is the
group in which the power and quality of Venus can finally express. This is even more
 true of Hierarchy and Shamballa (which has its own very powerful Venusian
connections due to the Venusianly inspired origin of the Lord of the World).
10. Venus in Aquarius—Distribution of Soul Light and Love Through the Etheric
Body:
Aquarius (with Gemini) is associated with the structure and dynamics of the etheric
body. Venus, interestingly, is said to rule the nervous system (EH 143) which is a
reflection of the nadis of the etheric body. Both Venus and Aquarius are involved in
the redemptive process. Venus raises the Earth to its stature; Aquarius brings the
Earth and all its beings nearer to their archetypal expression. This process of
redemption and transformation must manifest upon the physical plane, which
requires the transmission of soul energies through the etheric body. Venus through
the Aquarian etheric body is light and love come to Earth.
11. Venus in Aquarius—Blending the Light and Love of the Soul with the Light and
Love of the Ashram: The process of soul-infusion may be well underway, and yet
the disciple may not yet be a conscious member of an Ashram. Venus in Aquarius
encourages the disciple (in the midst of his spiritual training and culture) to undertake
conscious affiliation with the inner group (the Ashram) with which he is already
subjectively affiliated. This combination certainly stimulates progressive soul infusion,
and expands the process to include attraction to, integration with and fusion into the
Ashram. The light of the soul and the light of the Ashram become one light.
12. Venus in Aquarius—Impersonal Love:
The Aquarian attitude is often impersonal, and at the stage of disciple/initiate, so
consumed by the love of the soul, that the love of the personality definitely becomes
secondary. In addition, true Venusian love is impersonal rather than personal, for it is
inspired from the level of the soul (which transcends interest in ordinary personality
involvements). This impersonal love need not be cold however; the warmth of true
friendship can radiate through it. Venus in Aquarius thus, confers the capacity to
share and distribute the impersonal love of the soul.
13. Venus in Aquarius—Group Integration Promoting Soul-Personality Fusion:
The group is a testing ground for struggling personalities seeking to become soul-
infused. At the same time, the group offers tremendous opportunity for soul-infusion,
because the group-disciplines to which the personalities of group members must
submit are precisely those which promote the reduction of selfishness and the
emergence of the group-conscious soul. Under the magnetic power of Venus and
the coordinative energy of Aquarius, the disciple integrates with his group merges
and fuses with his group and, simultaneously, discovers that his own soul-personality
fusion is steadily advancing.
14. Venus in Aquarius—Love: the Key to Telepathy:
The key to telepathy is to “think outwardly towards each other in love.” (DINA I 80)
Venus unites individuals soul-to-soul (as it were) under the Law of Magnetic Impulse.
Further, Venus rules the ajna center which impulses the higher forms of mental
telepathy (thought telepathy is of many varieties—some higher, some lower than
those impulsed by the ajna center). Group-conscious Aquarius is ever conscious of
affiliated associates, and rules the many lines of subtle-energy connection between
them. Under the influence of Venus in Aquarius, the disciple/initiate is well-equipped
to “think outwardly (Aquarius) towards each other (Aquarius) in love (Venus)”
15. Venus in Aquarius—the ‘Individual Soul’ and the Group Soul, Fused:
There is really no such thing as the “individual soul”—there is no “my soul and thine”,
but there are individual causal bodies which preoccupy the attention of points of view
 within the group soul—for every individual, is really a “point of view”. If Venus in Leo
represents the focus of consciousness within the individual causal body, Venus in
Aquarius helps consciousness to transcend such a focus, and to embrace the causal
state and contribution of affiliated associates. The sense of the reality of group soul
is, thus, confirmed, and the “treasures” of all causal bodies are considered the
treasures of the one group consciousness. Venus in Aquarius (a decentralizing
influence), thus, contributes to the process of decentralization even upon the higher
mental plane. By means of these dynamics, the illusory individual soul widens its
horizons and merges which the group soul which it has ever been.
16. Venus in Aquarius—Distribution of ‘Causal Value’ in Service; Spiritual Sharing:
Causal bodies are treasures, repositories of value. Aquarius is a major sign of
distribution, and service. Venus rules all that which is of value. Venus in Aquarius
governs the process by which the contents of the causal treasury is widely
distributed in service. This distribution applies both to the individual causal body, or
to aggregates of causal bodies found in group formation. Accumulated and refined
value is offered in service to many.
17. Venus in Aquarius—Science of the Soul:
The science of the soul is studied upon the fifth ray. Both Venus and Aquarius are
important distributors of the fifth ray, and will be increasingly so as the Aquarian Age
progresses. The scientific Aquarian energy will help to create outer instrumentation
for the study of the causal body and its informing consciousness. Venus (stimulating
the ajna center which becomes more psychically active at the time of the third
initiation) will stimulate the inner instrumentation for such study. The world of the
causal body will have to be investigated psychically (yet scientifically) investigated,
and to this investigation Venus (reinforced by Aquarius which rules some of the
higher psycho-mental powers) makes its definite contribution.
18. Venus in Aquarius—Group Use of the Light for Scientific Penetration into
Higher Realms: Modern science is a group activity; this will be even more so for
modern psychic science. Scientific group investigation of the soul realm will develop
during the Aquarian Age. Individual psychic testimony will be corroborated by peers
with reliable psychic powers. Groups will intelligently enter the higher worlds
together, with their “eyes” wide open.
19. Venus in Aquarius—Esoteric Group Psychology:
The new esoteric psychology is group psychology and cannot be understood without
reference to the Laws of Group Work (the Seven Laws of the Soul). The two rays
needed to study this type of psychology are the second and the fifth. Venus is amply
endowed with both rays, and Aquarius with the fifth, constellationally, and the second
via Jupiter and a veiled Neptune. The soul is the true psyche, and Venus is the
symbol for the soul. Aquarius is the group sign, and the laws of the soul are group
laws. We can see how the study and understanding of esoteric group psychology is
facilitated by this combination, whereas, for instance, Venus in Leo or Scorpio would
have more individual application.

We have already discussed how Venus in Aquarius represents the energetic quality
of the Ashram, which is group soul expressing in relative perfection. It is interesting
to realize that all members of the Brotherhood are considered to be esoteric
psychologists regardless of what their ray emphasis may be. To be a member of the
Hierarchy confers this ability.
20. Venus in Aquarius—Group Idealism:
Aquarius is an idealistic sign; it ever seeks to improve the present condition and raise
 it closer to ideal performance. Venus, too, represents the ideal (and, probably
monadically, distributes the sixth ray). The soul is the ideal towards which the
personality strives; Venus is one of the major symbols for (and energizers of) the
soul. When the idealistic tendencies of Aquarius are combined with its group
orientation, group idealism arises. There are militantly idealistic groups which (under
Mars) serve personal or material ends. Venus (in combination with Aquarius)
elevates the idealism of the group and brings it in line with soul objectives.
21. Venus in Aquarius—the Beauty of Group Unity:
Probably all have had the experience (when gathered with the members of a spiritual
group) of the influx of buddhic energy. This unifying energy (related in part to Venus)
carries a beauty of its own. Beauty appears in unity; unity appears in beauty. Venus
in Aquarius is an influence ideally attuned to the registration of the quality of beauty
which emerges within sufficiently soul-unified groups.
22. Venus in Aquarius—Revelation of the Potencies of the Soul:
The soul is the genius within every human being. Aquarius is that synthetic sign in
which genius emerges (not narrowly but in breadth) as the harvest of many lifetimes
of particularized labor. Venus, too, is associated with all the higher soul qualities
which, taken in their aggregate, express as what the world calls “genius”. Venus in
Aquarius is one of those combinations which contribute to the revelation of the
potencies and higher vibratory capacities of the soul. This revelation is not confined
to the individual soul. The revelation of the potencies of the group soul are even
more important, and express what might be called ‘group genius’ which exists just as
certainly as individual genius.
23. Venus in Aquarius—Values Stored in Hierarchy (and in the Causal Body of
Humanity):
Although Hierarchy exists (now, for the most part) beyond the realm of the causal
body (since in re-focussed upon the buddhic plane after 1925), it still must be
considered as a great repository if higher values, (sublimated, of course through
elevation into triadal realms). Aquarius represents the “Life more Abundant” available
through Hierarchy and Shamballa. Venus represents the accumulated value
harvested through the experience of all members of Hierarchy—an immense
treasure. Venus in Aquarius represents the radiant release of this accumulated value
for the welfare of humanity and the planet. Of course, other planets, such as Jupiter
and Uranus participate in this release, but Venus is the symbol of the stored
treasure. The causal body of humanity as a whole contains extraordinary treasures
(if compared with the impoverished personality expression of the majority of the
human race). How much greater must be the treasury of Hierarchy, awaiting its time
of distribution! Perhaps humanity must learn to use and fully express the contents of
its causal body, before Hierarchy can release the value it has in store. The formula is
ever—“Use, Demand. Take.” First, we human beings must use what we have
accumulated; then the treasures of Hierarchy will be more available. Over these
treasures, Venus rules. Aquarius makes them broadly available.
24. Venus in Aquarius—the Beauty of the Full Spectrum of Ashramic Living:
Hierarchy expresses all colors and hues of the spectrum. Aquarius is the sign of the
Hierarchy and, symbolically, Aquarius represents the “coat of many colors”. The Light
of Shamballa, passing through an ‘emanative prism’ becomes the sevenfold
spectrum of Hierarchy. Venus represents the beauty of the full spectrum of the
Aquarian Ashramic Life.
25. Venus in Aquarius—Miscellaneous:
a. Group Initiation: The initiator wields the fifth ray (both Venus and Aquarius), and
initiation must occur in the group (Aquarius).
