IDENTIFICATION OF THE ”USE INSTRUCTION MANUAL”

The Use Instruction Manual is a document issued by AROL S.p.A. and it is a fundamental part
of the capping head.
AROL S.p.A. forbids any total or partial duplication of this manual, as well as the disclosure of
its contents under any form.
This Use Instruction Manual describes in detail procedures concerning operation and
maintenance of capping head to be followed by Operators and Assistance Technicians.

PURPOSE OF THIS USE INSTRUCTION MANUAL

The purpose of this Use Instruction Manual is to supply all personnel interacting with the
capping head with all information necessary to properly use and maintain its optimum
conditions, especially under maximum safety conditions.
The structure of this Manual allows to easily identify sections concerning Operators and
Assistance Technicians (see terminology in sub--paragraph 2.2., page 5).

Each part of the manual concerning operators is marked by symbol

Each part of the manual concerning assistance technicians is marked by symbol

PRESERVATION
To properly preserve the Use Instruction Manual it is recommended to:
F Use the manual so that it is not deteriorated in any way
F Do not remove, add or revise any part of the manual; updating can only be carried out by
AROL S.p.A.
F Keep this manual in a dry area, so that its duration cannot be affected
F Give the manual to any other user or following owner of the capping head

OVERVIEW
Before any operation with or on the capping head, carefully read procedures and
warnings contained in this manual.
Use instructions and maintenance of the capping head are fundamental parts of the
capping head itself and must be with it during the whole service, up to scrapping.
AROL S.p.A. is not liable for any problem, breaking, accident, etc. due to ignorance (or
non compliance) of regulations contained in this manual. The same is deemed to be valid
for any unauthorized change, variation and/or installation of accessory.

In particular, AROL S.p.A. is not held for responsible in case of damages arising from:
F Natural disasters.
F Wrong operations.
F No maintenance.
Moreover, AROL S.p.A. is not held responsible for any misuse of the capping head.
Use ORIGINAL SPARE PARTS only.
Do not wait for the complete wear of components; replacing the components when necessary
implies a better operation of the capping head and savings since worse damages are avoided.

3. HEADS ADJUSTMENT

3.1. TORQUE ADJUSTMENT

If one should note an excessive, or poor, screwing of the cap, it is possible to adjust the head’s
torque based on a predeterminated scale engraved on the head’s body.
To adjust the head proceed as follows:
n loosen the locking nut (A)
n loosen the locking grub screw (B)
n rotate the body of the head (C) up to obtain the desired
torque. The numbers engraved on the head’sbody express
the torque in Pound x Inch.
n screw the locking grub screw (B) checking that it fits into one
of the seats (D) of the head’s body.
n lock the nut (A)

8. LUBRICATION

To lubricate its capping heads, Arol S.p.A uses the following grease:

J FIN FOOD GREASE 2 type--tested USDA -- H1

8.1. LUBRICANTS HOMOLOGATION ACCORDING TO USDA

In the U.S.A, the most strict rules and regulations about the food industry are enforced. US
homologations for lubricants which could be used in food and pharmaceutical industry are
acknowledged at international levels
The homologation that ackowledges a product as food lubricant (Food grade lubricant) or
special food industry lubricant is issued by USDA (United States Department of
Agriculture=Competent authority for agriculture). A condition for a food lubricant homologation
is the demonstration that this lubricant has only substances to satisfy purity requirements of
Guidelines of security 21 CFR 178.3570 of FDA (Food and Drug administration=Competent
authority for foodstuffs and drugs). FDA issued a positive list of raw materials that could be used
in food lubricants formulas only.
According to USDA the homologation provide two cathegories: USDA -- H1 and USDA -- H2
J H1 these initials mark Food grade lubricants which are lubricants that could be
used in every friction points of food and pharmaceutical industry machine and
equipements, in which contacts between lubricants
and food considered technically inevitable
J H2 these initials mark lubricants recommended for general use in food and
pharmaceutical industry, supposing that there are no contacts with food

10. PRODUCTION CHECKS

DATA TABLE FOR CLOSURE APPLICATION

The use of the following table it is useful to check during the time the correct bottles capping
and the efficiency of the capping turret.

WARNING:
The capping check must be carried out after every hour of production.
For the compilation of the table proceed as follows: (see the example table at page 35):
a) Indicate, at the top of the table:
n the diameter of the container
n the volume of the container in litres
n the type of cap used
n the number of bottles per minute
n the number of capping turret heads
b) Indicate in the ”removal torsion” table:
n the reading given by the torquemeter, checking each individual bottle and, in the final
column, the average value(eg: the values of the bottles 1, 13 and 25 are 20, 18 and 19
respectively with an average value of 19 Lbs x inch).
n the reading given by the torquemeter, checking each individual bottle and, in the final
column, the average value(eg: the values of the bottles 1, 13 and 25 are 20, 18 and 19
respectively with an average value of 19 Lbs x inch).
The general average value, given by the example table is about 20 Lbs x inch.
If one or more of the values is distant from the average (in the example, bottles 4 and 7), check
the torsion and functioning of the relevant heads (N° 4 and 7).
To adjust the heads see the relevant sub--chapter.
PRODUCTION CHECKS

NOTE:
The values given in the example table are only examples. Adhere to the specific data
given by the manufacturers of the caps.
