Dear Diary

At this moment I express my feelings, thoughts, and experiences in connection with King

Lear character. For instance, I come from a family where my father is a political leader and

possesses the role and responsibilities of King Lear traits thus leads with authority. He does not

allow us to participate in decision making since he is a poor listener and likes conflicts as while as

dominating the interactions. He cannot appreciate things done correctly but usually complain

though he demands support and love from the entire family. However, my character usually

contradicts his expectation because I often criticize his unpleasant rules subjected to us. He

portrays discrimination because my elder brothers are more loved thus enjoy his favors. For

instance “King Lear demands to be treated like a leader or king and enjoys the title though does

not fulfill the leadership obligations of ruling for the good of his people. Also, the tests he shows

his daughters implies that the king values the praises rather than serving individuals well (p.17)”.

Also, the conflicts arise in our family since my father portrays injustice when it comes to

equal share. My father governs us with directives and whenever he makes command he expects

the whole family to appreciate and support his views regardless of the consequences. Since he is a

political leader, he aims to enrich himself and like to accumulate the resources with the implication

of children having huge inheritances. I learned his injustice in nature, so I begin showing him the

need to portray good leadership and working towards improving society but not personal gain.

Due to the opinion of contradiction, I became the most neglected child from the time I was young.

Our siblings are schooling in a better institution whereas I am living in a vulnerable state due to

inequality. The same scenario is reflected from King Lear where he rejects Cordelia idea and

eventually divides his Kingdom to Regan and Goneli (P.4).

It is the same situation multiple families experiences because some parents do not exercise

their parental role in their families thus resulting in conflicts. It means that many children are

neglected and eventually fail to accomplish their goals in education as while as other sectors. For

example, “The King sets out to bring the division of the kingdom among his daughters. The family

becomes disunited due to the conflict that emerges between three daughters and King Lear (P.11)”.

Also, in cultural or social perspectives, the leaders are not acting towards eradicating individual

differences due to political affiliation. The leaders strive for political gain without minding the

welfare of the citizens. Our nation experiences conflict once the new elections begin because of

previous leadership which failed to combat disunity. For instance, “King Lear’s retirement results

into a severe conflict and war that makes the whole family dead as while as kingdom threat (p.

10)”. However, it vital for the culture rulers to realize the goal towards improving the society rather

than subjecting chaos to them. The same case King Lear recognizes the need to embrace change

in the country because of immense problem like tremendous economic and social disparity that

existed in the kingdom. (P.28).
