Lesson Plan #18

Lab #4
Making Music

Date: Friday November 9, 2018

Supervisor: Aubrey Isaksen
Lead Teacher: Holly Gibson (3rd Lesson)

Children Receiving Specific Focus Today:

1. Oliver- Science
2. Simon- Blocks
3. Abby- Dramatic Play
4. Ty- Dramatic Play
5. Graham- Creative Art
6. Jackson- Blocks

Preassessment and Findings:

I have observed that the children like toys that make noise as well as musical instruments.
Ty, Dessa, Bennett, and Kate was able to tell me when an instrument was played loudly or softly.
The children were also able to demonstrate playing instruments softly and loudly. They were not
able to name instruments that were loud or soft. Clancy and Jackson through observation
played with the drum stick and bongo drums. Jackson played the bongos loudly for a while in
the dramatic play area. He had a smile on his face while drumming. Addie held the egg shakers
and carried the instrument around with her. She had placed the egg shaker in her backpack
and wanted to take it home with her. Leo through observation has played the piano multiple
times. He will play loud and soft. Emma has played the piano during lab. She doesn’t particularly
play loud or soft. Plays at a normal volume. Some children only think that instruments are bought
and cannot be made.

Ideas to be Emphasized and Overall Developmental Focus:

1. Musical Instruments can be loud or soft.
2. We can make instruments loud or soft. Different materials contribute to the loudness and
softness.
3. Instruments can be made at home or bought at a store.
4. Today we will focus on social and emotional skills.
