Course This course deals with modern power system operation and control problems and solution techniques.
Description Topics covered include: Hierarchical Structure of The Electric Power Network, Economic dispatch of
thermal power generation units, Unit commitment, Load frequency control, Interchange of Power and
Energy, Optimal Power Flow, and Controllability of Electric Power Systems.

Pre- ELNG 309: Power System Generation, Transmission and Distribution. ELNG 218: Synchronous
requisites Machines ELNG 419: Power System Analysis.
Course Upon successful completion of this course students would be able to:

Out-of-class Homework: Four/ Five homework assignments, each due at the end of the week
assignments following its assignment date.
Course Project
A theoretical and numerical simulation project assigned for Optimal Power Flow,
Load Frequency Control. Each task due two weeks following assignment date.
Course Grading:
Attendance, Assignment and Quiz: 30%**
Mid Semester Exams (2): 20% **
End of Semester Exams: 50% **
