PART 1: UTILITARIANISM AND OTHER ETHICAL APPLICATION OF OTHER ETHICAL THEORIES

1. GATHER THE FACTS
What:
 Danaery is 24 years old.
 She is a student of one of the prestigious in Kings Landing.
 She belongs to a middle-class family.
 She entered prostitution as a profession by choice and have no qualms about it.
 She is a high-priced prostitute.
 She’s afraid to disclose her situation to her parents.

When:
 Before Danaery completed her education, she found and entered prostitution as her
perfect job that offers her convenient working hours and great money.
 She started prostitution as her job in the age of late 24 or during her college time.
Why:
 Danaery accepts prostitution as a job to earn some money because she cannot afford a
lavish lifestyle and she thinks that her parents will not understand the situation.
How:
 Danaery works and utilize her free time as a source of income.

2. DETERMINE THE ETHICAL ISSUE.

Danaery Snow is a 24-year-old student of one of the prestigious in Kings Landing. Before
completing her education, she has entered a profession which is prostitution. She belongs to
middle-class family and in order to afford a lavish lifestyle she utilize her free time to earn money
and she is known as a high-priced prostitute. She believes that her profession is just a normal job
and thinks that there is nothing wrong about it. Just like other people, they used their brain for
their job to earn money and Danaery use her body for income. She thinks that the society is very
judgmental and biased because they said that prostitution is unethical while a boy and girl go on
a blind date and end up having sex is fine. The ethical issues in the given situation, do we agree
on Danaery’s perspective or against about prostitution.

3. DETERMINE THE VIRTUES/PRINCIPLES THAT HAVE A BEARING ON THE CASE

 For Plato, in his Allegory of the Cave, it can see as a metaphor for the search and
achieving for the truth and good in the presence of wisdom.
 For Aristotle, “Happiness” is an activity of the soul that good men seek which is in
accordance with virtue and which is in conformity with reason that can be achieved
through the act which is best and most virtues.
 For Aquinas, “Conscience” it is man’s practical reason oriented to his telos, God, and
directed us to our ultimate happiness which is the Greatest Good. Conscience has within
itself the fundamental principles of morality that good must be pursed and evil must be
avoided.
 For Kant, always act in such a way that could will that the maxim of your act become
universal law. Action is good in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own
person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means but always at the same
time as an end and if it is worthy of universalizing without contradiction.

4. LIST THE POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

Option 1: Danaery will continue her job and not tell her parents about her profession.
Option 2: Danaery will stop her job and have a treatments and rehabilitation that could help
address her problems that she’s dealing and not tell her parents about her profession.
Option 3: Danaery will tell her parents about her profession and at will continue her job.
Option 4: Danaery will tell her parents about her profession and at the same time she will
leave her job and have a treatments and rehabilitation that could help address her problems
that she’s dealing and.

5. COMPARE THE ALTERNATIVES OF THE VIRTUES/PRINCIPLES

The most straightforward alternative is to say that people have reason to acquire virtuous
character traits and perform virtuous actions because doing things reliably guarantee their own
happiness . A person of good will would seek moral end of an action without seeking the true
world of its action and the welfare in the act. That action which is compatible with the autonomy
of the will is permitted that which compatible is forbidden.

6. CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES

Option 1: Danaery will continue her job and not tell her parents about her profession.
Daenary pleasure’s experiencing coming from the money she earned from his
profession, it’s pleasure is not that great because she’s just using her money to afford a
lavish lifestyle. It’s pleasure is low, as stated in the situation that her parents didn’t know her
job as a prostitute that makes her lonely. She gain pleasure from the money she earn and
afford a lavish lifestyle but there's a pain present because she can’t open up her situation to
her parents.
Option 2: Danaery will stop her job and have a treatments and rehabilitation that could help
address her problems that she’s dealing and not tell her parents about her profession.
Danaery will become a ordinary girl and is now safe from harm even though she’s not
being honest to her parents about her past profession. Through treatments and
rehabilitation, it help her to better understand what is the right thing to the wrong one’s
that may lead her to the greatest good. Her pleasure is very low because she don’t have
enough money for her lavish lifestyle that cause her for being bother and she can’t disclose
her past profession to his parents, this is based from John Stuart Mill Utilitarianism.
Option 3: Danaery will tell her parents about her profession and at will continue her job.
Even Danaery open up her situation to her parents, it may also lift a burden and makes
her parents angry that may arise a conflict on her parents because she’s still working as a
prostitute. This may cause Danaery lonelier than before and the quality of pleasure is very
low.
Option 4: Danaery will tell her parents about her profession and at the same time she will
leave her job and have a treatments and rehabilitation that could help address her problems
that she’s dealing and..
This is the best option, as Danaery will be able to achieve happiness. First, she will be able
to disclose her situation to her parents. Second, she will leave her unethical profession and
freeing her from harm such as abuse and diseases from her job. Third, she will now
understand what the society thinks about prostitution. And Lastly, her parents will also be
happy that her child is now in the right side. But Danaery might be also lonely because she
do not have more money than before that affecting her happiness.

7. MAKE A DECISION WITH JUSTIFICATION

Prostitution is nothing but a curse to those whose are involved in this shameful act that's
why she can treated worst than the animals and she has to lead a miserable life upon the
society. That’s why, we are not in favor of Danaery’s perspective. First, prostitution is very
different from normal job because having a profession, we consider the dignity of one person
while prostitution is not. Second, based on the different philosophers just like Aquinas.
Danaery’s happiness and action is not guided by the greatest good nor the conscience since her
profession as a prostitute is consider a evil one. And we can say that her happiness is not the real
or the ultimate happiness because she’s the only one who benefited on it and her parents didn’t
know that she was a prostitute,

PART 2: JOHN RAWLS

Katarungan at Pagkamakatarungan:
Pagtataguyod ng Pangkalahatang Kabutihan

1.Ang Likas na Katangian ng Teorya

2.Distributive Justice
a.Egalitarian
b. Capitalist
c. Socialist

Likas na Katangian ng Teorya

(Nature of the theory)

I. THE ORIGINAL POSITION

kanilang lipunan at kasaysayan nito.

II. The veil of ignorance

III. Two principles of justice:["Justice is the first virtue of the instittution, as truth is of system of
thought."]

A. The principle of equal basic liberties
