What is Dia de los Muertos?

● “Dia de los Muertos” means “Day of the Dead”

● A celebration held in Mexico and Central America.

● A holiday which honors ancestors who have passed on and celebrates

life!

● It begins November 1st and November 2nd.

● It first originated in the 1600s when the Spanish came to Mexico.


What do you do on these days?

● November 1st and November 2nd are the two days where our
loved ones can come back to visit their families and friends
from the spirit world!
● The days before are spent decorating the ofrendas, and
preparing our loved ones favorite meals!
○ Ofrendas means offerings.
● Parties are also held during these days to celebrate our loved
ones.
What do we need to celebrate it?

1. An ofrenda.
2. Marigolds.
3. Candles.
4. Pictures.
5. Food.
6. Money and favorite items of the passed loved one.
7. Calaveras.
