BTS3912E
Product Description IntroductionIntroduction

1 Introduction

1.1 Positioning
1.2 Benefits

1.1 Positioning
The rapid development in the field of mobile communications technology promotes a sharp
growth in the number of mobile users, which increasingly poses high requirements for the
network quality of operators. Besides improving network coverage, operators need various
technologies to expand network capacity to cope with the rapidly increasing traffic volume in
the mobile broadband era.
In most densely populated urban areas, coverage holes and insufficient network capacity
significantly affect user experience. Operators are eager to find a low-cost, easy-to-deploy
network solution that can easily blend with the environment and is able to compensate for the
sharp growth in users and deliver critical improvements to network capabilities. Customer-
oriented and innovative, Huawei unveils the industry-leading BTS3912E, which is an LTE-
only micro base station.
The BTS3912E provides a pole site solution and is mainly mounted onto a pole, for example,
a lamp pole or utility pole. With a cylindrical appearance, the BTS3912E is compact in size,
lightweight, enables plug-and-play deployment, and offers self-configuration features, making
it an excellent choice for operators. The BTS3912E does not require shelter or equipment
room facilities, thereby simplifying site acquisition and network deployment.

1.2 Benefits
Compact Structure and Fast Network Deployment
Compact and lightweight, the highly integrated BTS3912E is designed with a cylindrical
structure and easy to install and maintain, reducing operators' capital expenditure (CAPEX).
The BTS3912E can be installed on a wall or pole without the need for an equipment room,
making it an effective product for operators. The BTS3912E has few requirements for site

acquisition and enables flexible and fast network deployment. Therefore, the costs in site
leasing are reduced.

Large System Capacity and High Throughput

 The BTS3912E can serve a maximum of 1200 UEs in radio resource control (RRC)
connected state.
 The BTS3912E has a maximum throughput of 400 Mbit/s in downlink and 150 Mbit/s in
uplink.

Diverse and Low-Cost Transmission Modes

 The BTS3912E supports all-IP transmission.
 The BTS3912E supports wireless transmission modes, such as fast Ethernet (FE),
Gigabit Ethernet (GE), and microwave.

Expanded Capacity and Improved Coverage

The BTS3912E absorbs traffic bursts and therefore expands network capacity at hotspots, and
it is also used to eliminate coverage holes to improve network coverage. With the BTS3912E,
operators are able to enhance network quality and improve user experience.

configuration information. The BTS3912E supports two O&M modes.
4.1 O&M System and Modes
4.2 O&M Functions

4.1 O&M System and Modes

An O&M system for the BTS3912E includes the following elements:
 LMT: maintains a single BTS3912E locally or remotely.
 U2000: maintains multiple BTS3912Es remotely.
 Configuration management express (CME): configures and manages BTS3912E data.
Figure 1.6 shows the O&M system for the BTS3912E.

Figure 1.6 O&M system for the BTS3912E

The BTS3912E supports the following O&M modes:

 Local maintenance on the LMT
 Remote maintenance on the U2000 or LMT at the OMC

4.2 O&M Functions

The O&M functions include:
 Configuration management
 Fault management
 Performance management
 Security management
 Software management
 Deployment management
 Device management
 Inventory management

Configuration Management
Configuration management includes data configuration, query, export, backup, and
restoration, as well as configuration synchronization with the U2000.
Device data, transmission data, and service data are configured independently based on
managed objects (MOs).

BTS3912E
Product Description Operation and MaintenanceOperation and Maintenance

Fault Management
Fault management involves fault detection, fault isolation, self-healing, alarm reporting, and
alarm correlation. The O&M system manages faults in the hardware, environment, software,
transmission, cell, and services.
 Fault isolation prevents faults from affecting the operational continuity of the
BTS3912E. Self-healing minimizes the impact of faults on services by lowering
performance or reestablishing cells.
 Alarm correlation enables the BTS3912E to report only the root fault and the ultimate
impact on services. Alarm correlation helps engineers quickly pinpoint the root fault,
analyze severity, and take measures to rectify the root fault instead of rectifying the
associated faults.

Performance Management
Performance management involves periodic performance measurement on the BTS3912E and
the collection, storage, and reporting of the measurement results.

Tracing Management
Tracing management facilitates routine maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting by
tracing internal messages as well as messages related to interfaces, signaling links, and UEs.

Security Management
Security management implements user authentication and access control. It includes user
account management, rights management, login management, identity authentication, and
operation authentication.
Security management also involves Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)-based security control on the
transmission channels between the BTS3912E and the U2000.
Security management provides the following network- and user-specific security functions:
 Encryption: encrypts important user information.
 Authentication: manages and authenticates user accounts.
 Access control: controls user operations.
 Security protocol: supports SSL.

Software Management
Software management involves the following functions:
 Software version management: Software versions of the BTS3912E can be queried,
backed up, and restored.
 Software version upgrade: BTS3912Es can be remotely upgraded in batches. With the
one-click remote upgrade wizard provided by the U2000, you can:
− Perform health checks before and after upgrades.
− Back up, download, and activate the software.
− Check the upgrade status and results.
The BTS3912E supports automatic configuration updates during upgrades. To
complete an upgrade, simply follow the instructions on the upgrade wizard. It also

allows you to rapidly roll back the software version by running one command,
reducing the impact of upgrade failures.
 Patch management involves patch query, download, loading, activation, deactivation,
rollback, confirmation, and removal for the BTS3912E.

Deployment Management
Deployment management covers BTS3912E self-discovery, Wi-Fi deployment, remote
deployment, and radio parameter self-planning. These functions reduce the manual workload
of network deployment and increase deployment efficiency.
 BTS3912E self-discovery: Operators do not need to manually set the IP addresses for the
BTS3912E and U2000 during network deployment.
 Wi-Fi deployment: Software and data are automatically downloaded from a maintenance
terminal to the Wi-Fi module of the BTS3912E. This approach allows for faster
deployment than downloading software and data from the U2000, especially when the
transmission bandwidth between the BTS3912E and the U2000 is insufficient.
 Remote deployment: During remote deployment, software commissioning is performed
at the OMC rather than onsite. You can perform acceptance tests at the OMC.
 Radio parameter self-planning: Radio parameters can be automatically planned for
BTS3912Es onsite, reducing the workload involved with manual parameter planning and
configurations.

Device Management
Device management involves data configuration, device status management, fault detection,
and troubleshooting for all devices on the BTS3912E. On the device panel, you can view
device status and perform simple operations such as device query and reset.

Inventory Management
Inventory management involves the collection and reporting of inventory information about
the BTS3912E. With inventory management, you can manage network equipment assets at
the OMC.
