1.1 Introduction
The 7302 ISAM is a frame based Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer
(DSLAM), that is, a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access multiplexer which is
based on a frame forwarding architecture in a packet aggregation network.

User Side
At the user side, each 7302 ISAM terminates DSL links and a limited number of FE
or GE links.
It is possible to connect subtending DSLAMs to the FE/GE links at the user side in:
• cascading mode: a chain of 1 subtending ISAM per ISAM
• star mode: multiple subtending ISAMs per ISAM
• ring mode (except when there is a ring behind a Hub-ISAM).
Figure 1-2 shows the cascading topology.
ISAM

Network Side
At the network side, the 7302 ISAM terminates GE or FE links. The following
configurations are possible:
• Connected to one or more Ethernet Switches
The Ethernet links can be connected to one or more Ethernet Switches. These
Ethernet Switches forward the frames over the Ethernet based aggregation access
network until they reach the IP Edge Router or BRAS of the corresponding
Network Service Provider (NSP). At the IP Edge Router or BRAS, the frames
enter the IP backbone of the NSP.
• More than one FE/GE link (link aggregation)
In case of more than one FE or GE, Ethernet link aggregation is used.
• Directly connected to an IP Edge Router
The 7302 ISAM can be connected directly to the IP Edge Router or BRAS. The
Ethernet aggregation network is reduced to one or more parallel Ethernet links.
Note: A link is a term which is used to refer to the physical layer of an interface of
the 7302 ISAM, for example, an ADSL link, an Ethernet link.

The IVP acts as an Access Media Gateway (MG) and connects the legacy NB user
interfaces (POTS) to the NGVN.
The ISAM Voice Package supports
• distributed configurations, where the NB user interfaces and MG are integrated
in the same node
• centralized configurations, where the MG is located in a hub node and the NB
user interfaces in remote nodes.

VEM is the 5523 AWS module for Voice domain in charge of:
• Media gateway interface management
• Voice provisioning
• PSTN user ports management
Providing a full integration with the rest of 5523 domains.
1355DN is the Voice Service Manager for Alcatel Access Nodes. It provides a full
abstraction of the underlying technology used to provide the service with the
following main features:
• Voice provisioning and line testing for individual or a set of subscribers that
allows fast deployment of the network
• Migration tools mechanisms for LE or legacy AN replacement.
• Open interfaces to OSS that eases massive deployment of the service, preventive
and customer-on-call line testing and subscriber information alignment with
OSS.
The management interface between the VEM and the IVPS offers a SNMP v1
protocol. There is also a direct interface between the 1355DN and the IVPS.
The IVPS card is not equiped with a CT interface.
Product Architecture
The ISAM Voice Package architecture is that of the ISAM with the addition of voice
services. Addition of two new boards:
• one LIM, POLT, providing POTS
• one server card, IVPS, which is the VoIP gateway for ISAM Voice Package
The IVPS communicates with the voice line cards by means of an “extended BLES”
(XLES) proprietary protocol. The IVPS terminates the proprietary signaling
messages from the voice cards, provides a Megaco interface with the call server and
handles the specific OAM needed to support VoIP service.
The POLT provides a classical POTS interface towards the subscriber and performs
the packetization of the voice over RTP, sending the voice directly to the network as
VoIP over Ethernet. The POLT supports up to 48 POTS interfaces.

General
This section describes the initialization of the 7302 ISAM.
After the SHub subsystem and the LT shelf subsystem are powered up, the boot
sequence starts for each subsystem.
In this phase the LT boards boot and wait for the NT board to get their OSW.
System Initialization
In the first phase of the system initialization, the NT board detects the LT boards, the
ACU and the appliques (HW) and downloads the appropriate SW to the LT boards.
The LT boards start up with their SW and perform their specific initialisations.
After these initialisations, each LIM board sends a signal to the NT board. The
second phase of the system initialization begins when the NT board receives this
signal. Now the NT board configures each LT board.
Figure 2-2 shows how the 7302 ISAM can be managed in a network.

The remote Craft Terminal (CT) uses TL1 commands or Command Line Interface
(CLI) commands. TL1 is used for pre-provisioning of the NT board. CLI is used to
manage both the SHub subsystem as the NT board.
Figure 2-3 shows the management topology for the two subsystems of the
7302 ISAM.

Note: If the 7302 ISAM is configured to have only one public IP address, then the
direct SNMP management interface to the SHub is no longer available. The SHub
will then be managed through the SNMP interface of the NT.
The NT Controller and the SHub subsystem each contain a separate SNMP agent.
The NT Controller / LIMs and the SHub subsystem can be managed via an EMS.
It is also possible to use local TL1 or CLI craft terminal on the NT board to manage
the LTs.
An integrated CLI approach is implemented on the NT board using an CLI agent.
This agent implements CLI commands for the NT Controller / LIMs and the SHub
subsystem. However, there is no semantical integration.

3.1 Introduction
This chapter describes the different ISAM subrack types supported for the European
Telecommunication Standard Institute (ETSI) market.
For each subrack, the following characteristics are described:
• Subrack dimensions
• Physical areas
• Slot positions
• Supported plug-in units (per release).
3.2 General
The modular organization of the ISAM system allows a wide range of physical size
and traffic capacity options.
The basic building blocks of the ISAM system are the subracks or shelves(*).
(*): Both names are used for the same item.
The ISAM R2.x is a one-subrack system. Daisy-chaining multiple shelves via
Extender boards is not supported.
It is possible to cascade multiple collocated shelves via the standard Fast Ethernet
(FE)/Gigabit Ethernet (GE) subtending links. In such a configuration, each subrack
will operate and be managed as a separate system.
Subrack Types
Table 3-1 gives an overview of the supported subrack types in ETSI configurations.
The subracks comply with the standards of ETSI 300 386.

Board Types
The XD splitterless subrack can accommodate the following units (Figure 3-2):
• one Alarm Control Unit (ACU) plug-in board
• two Network Termination (NT) boards
• up to 16 LIMs:
Splitters for the xDSL LIMs can not be mounted in the XD splitterless subrack
and will be put in a separate subrack.
• one NT I/O applique:
This applique is a full size board which plugs into both NTIO connectors, located
high in the DSL cabling area of the subrack.
• one SMAS board:
This small board serves as a subrack identification resource. It is plugged into the
backplane and is delivered as an integral part of the subrack.
Notes:
• No PWR I/O board is developed for the XD splitterless subrack. The power
connectors are available in the connector area.
• No specific Termination Plugs are supported for R2.3.
Restrictions
The following restrictions apply:
• The XD splitterless subrack is not equipped with a TEST/SPARE bus. When the
1:N LT redundancy and/or MTA functionality needs to be supported, the
necessary provisions need to be available in the connected splitter device (refer
to section 4.1.2).
• The XD splitterless subrack will not be ready to support 72-line boards.
1+1 NT Redundancy
NT redundancy is supported from R2.2 onwards (HW & SW).
1:N LIM
The 1:N redundancy of the LIMs is not supported in the XD splitterless subrack itself
since no TEST/SPARE bus is available. When this functionality is required, the
necessary provisions need to be available in the connected splitter device.
1:N LIM redundancy is not a supported R2.x feature.

EBAS-A --
Note — For non Central Office (Class 3.1E of ETS 300 119-1)
environment deployment, check with Alcatel whether Outdoor
Cabinet LT (OD-LT) boards have to be used.
Powering
Power cables are directly connected to the power filters in the connector area.
Fan Unit
One fan unit (AFAN-H) provides forced air cooling in the subrack. The fan unit is a
field replaceable unit in the subrack fan area, it plugs directly into the backplane.
There are two variants, one with dustfilter and one without dustfilter. The fan unit of
the subrack in the lowest rack position must always contain a dustfilter (see Rack
Configuration).
The XD-LT subrack is splitterless. Therefore, the splitter appliques for the LT boards
need to be housed in a separate subrack, the XD splitter (XD-SP) subrack.
The XD splitter (XD-SP) subrack is supported from R2.0 on.
Mnemonic
The mnemonic is ADSL SPlitter Subrack version A (ASPS-A).
Dimensions
Figure 3-3 shows a front view.
The XD splitter subrack fits into conventional SI transmission racks (600 mm width
and 300 mm depth).
Location
The XD splitter subrack can be installed in a CO or a CEV and can be deployed in
remote cabinets requiring extended temperature range operation.

This section describes which hardware modules are required to support the various
MTA functions and 1:N LT Redundancy.
ISAM R2.3 does not support 1:N LT redundancy. The remainder of this section will
therefore focus on MTA.
The ISAM system provides an integrated Metallic Test Access Unit (MTAU)
function. Both limited test-access (no test and split access) and Full test-access (no
test, loopback, monitor and split access) are supported in ISAM R2.3.
The following modules are required to implement the MTAU function:
• NT-I/O board in XD-LT/Combo subrack:
to provide the (hardened) interface for communication between the NT and the
Test-I/O applique in the splitter subrack (TAUS unit).
The following NT-I/O board types support this functionality: ECNE-A, ECNC-B
and ECNC-C.
• Test-I/O applique (TAUS) in the splitter subrack:
to provide the interface to the test head and manage the Relay Controllers on the
LT appliques. The following Test-I/O board types support this functionality:
TAUS-A.
• The Test/Spare bus to provide (test or protection) access to a selected line.
This spare bus is implemented on the backpanel of the XD Splitter subrack and
in the XD-Combo300 subrack.
• LT appliques in the splitter subrack, that contain the relays to set up the proper
data paths.
Table 6-4 shows for all supported LT appliques in how far MTA (SW and HW
functionality) and 1:N redundancy (HW functionality only) is supported.
Splitters supporting only outward test-access are equipped with only 1 relay per line,
while splitters supporting both inward and outward test-access have 2 relays per line.
PSPS-A Version AF X X X
Note: In case of the XD-Combo 300 subrack, the subrack is HW ready to support
MTA and 1:N redundancy by integrating SPI interface per slot between the LT and
applique areas, and the test / spare bus.
