St. John’s 2018 Gala & Auction – Autumn Harvest
Our bi-annual Gala Auction was held last Saturday, 6
October at the Rosensteel Knights of Columbus Hall. The
Gala was a fun evening with great food, adult beverages,
and company. The refurbished K. of C. Hall and seasonal
decorations provided a special ambience for the evening.
The Fund-an-Item this year was for “Seats of Learning”
which will jump start funding of new desks and chairs for
our School classrooms to replace the existing 60 year old
desks now in use. Subject to final accounting, bidders
provided approximately $14,000 for the “Seats of Learning”
on Saturday. The fundraising part of the event was
successful, although the final numbers will not be confirmed
until the bids are confirmed and the final expense bills
received and paid.
Many thanks to all who supported the event with
Sponsorships, ticket purchases, donations of articles and
services, bidders at the event, donors of cash, purchasers of
tickets in the Trip Raffle, and advertisers in the program.
But extra special thanks to the core committee whose
efforts made the event possible: Angela Calarco, Peg Daly,
Russ Garruba, Josephine and Harry Gieske, Ann Hall, Greg
James, Jim and Sally Polk, Carol Slatick, and Dorothy

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
If you experience any form of abuse, please know that
there is help. Domestic violence refers to a pattern of
violent and coercive behavior by one adult over another in
an intimate relationship. It can consist of repeated severe
beatings or subtle forms of abuse, including threats and
control. It can include isolation. Isolation makes it hard for
the victim to see friends and family, her/his mail is read,
phone-calls and texts are monitored, car keys are taken
away, etc. Pray at 3:00 p.m. each day for family peace.
Catholics believe that God loves and cares for everyone,
and that God knows their pain and concerns. Catholics for
Family Peace (based at Catholic University) invites you to
join them in a moment of prayer at 3:00 p.m., wherever you
are, for those suffering from violence and abuse and those
who use violence to control others. We pray for them and
for all who work to end domestic violence. Would you set
an alarm to join them each day to pray at 3:00 p.m.? To
