With general elections round the corner, and several youth having become eligible
voters since the last general elections in 2014, an initiative like this is of
paramount significance and immense relevance in a country like ours that has the
proud distinction of being the largest and living democracy in the world. An
initiative like this, which may be looked upon as an Electoral Literacy and
awareness campaign, seeks to enlighten the youth who are the first time voters
about the electoral process, the role and responsibilities of various institutions
and agencies involved in the conduct of elections so as to engage the youth
meaningfully and responsibly in providing our nation an efficient, responsible,
transparent and accountable Government, just as the country is striving to emerge
as an economic, cultural and knowledge superpower in the world. It is intended
to make them aware and realize the importance of their vote so as to educate them
to cast it with caution and responsibility in the interest of the nation and people.
2. It is earnestly hoped and strongly desired that an initiative like this has far
reaching and long lasting positive impact on the young minds to influencing their
voting behaviour , electoral outlook and approach so as to render them politically
more knowledgeable and responsible by inculcating in them the kind of civic
sense and sensibility that characterises an ideal citizen in a vibrant democracy like
ours.
3. Our endeavour was to enrol every student who has become eligible to vote in the
next elections but has not been enrolled in the electoral roll and it is assumed that
none has been left out with total number of enrolment standing at.......... The
political awareness and interest being in our youth at an all time high level, thanks
to social and electronic media that have taken our youth by storm, the
participation in the event like appeared to be quite spontaneous, voluntary and
active as well. The election fever already being high and having caught the
attention and imagination of youth across the nation. The participation in the
initiative was found to be intensely active.
4. The initiative was totally non-partisan in nature and spirit with no political
leanings or moorings whatsoever. The initiative was free from all shades of
political ideologies, political overtones and motives, either ulterior or exterior. It
was organized as an academic event to enrich, enable, ennoble and empower our
students to participate in the democratic process of elections and therby in the
responsible and good governance of our country in the years to come.
