think technology has made people more or less creative? Explain your answer by
citing examples.

Yes, technology and internet have made plagiarism easier because there are lot of
sources. It made most people less creative because of the instant technology. They think that it
would not be a problem if they just copy or use someone else’s work because the owner won’t be
advised right away. People tend to get ideas on the internet but there are times that getting ideas
would result from copying someone’s work.

CASE 2: CYBER BULLYING

“Carabuena: From bully to cyberbullying victim”

 What did Carabuena do that made netizens angry?

A video was uploaded on social media showing Carabuena allegedly abusing a traffic
enforcer after being pulled over for a traffic violation.

 Describe the acts of cyber bullying that the netizens did to Carabuena. Do you think
their actions are justifiable? Defend your answer.

The responses of the netizens on Carabuena's abusive act are not justifiable. Having a
crime committed doesn't mean that everyone automatically has the power to bully and shame
him by posting and editing pictures of him on different social media. Further degrading and
public shaming won't solve his immoral act towards the traffic enforcer, but will patronize the
mindset of bullying people that has committed atrocious actions. The law gets to punish people,
not us.

 How did the incident affect Carabuena’s life?

The incident affected Carabuena's life that it came to the point where he was rushed to the
hospital after feeling discomfort from the offensive comments that several people gave him
while he was at the Quezon City Fiscal’s Office. Furthermore, it has greatly impacted his life and
his reputation.

 Do you think technology and the Internet have made bullying easier?

Technology and Internet has made bullying easier because alongside the development of
communications and its benefits, were the adaptation of hurtful and degrading comments and
opinions by the public. Verbal and physical bullying turned into anonymous online harassment,
which inflicts far effects to the victim.

Through the use of technology and Internet, bullying such as blackmailing has been made
easier. With the Internet, embarrassing pictures and information could be uploaded any minute
and ruin a person's life. Bullies can hide their identities and threaten someone's life. It can even
lead to suicide.
 Give one suggestion to avoid cyber bullying. Give one suggestion to avoid being a
cyber bully.

In preventing situations like cyber bullying from happening we should be cautious on the
privacy of our personal information like name, address, contact number, school or work place,
and passwords that can be used for bullying and blackmailing.

Sharing and posting others' personal information including pictures

and photographs without permission can be considered as a criminal offence. Make sure that the
pictures you are posting can only be viewed by the people you know. Avoid responding to the
messages with a rude and vexatious tone.

“Think before you click “. Step away from the computer and take some time to relax, think
and analyze the situation. Adding fuel to a fire sometimes brings further chaos and no problem
will be solved. Sending threatening and harassing messages will make you a cyber-bully.

3. Summarize the answers.

Based on the video and pictures alone, it would all but seem that Robert Blair Carabuena
is guilty. There is, indeed, no excuse for his demeaning actions wrought upon an institutional
peasant. Saturnino Fabros, a 20-year traffic enforcer veteran, isn’t excused from one of the
corrupt institutions in the land either; however, we have no legal basis to decide upon this case.
Only the judge does. Which is why it is all too important that this case be heard as soon as
possible in order to fully appreciate the facts.

The Philippine netizens have done their job. Its vigilance and consistent sharing of
pictures and the video allowed for the incident to become a national issue. The online petition
directed the attention of a multinational company to participate in the issue itself. That being
said, it should now be up to the courts to render its decision.

CASE 3: COMPUTER ADDICTION

“Four in ten teenage girls 'are addicted to internet: Youngsters increasingly showing signs
of compulsion with their tablets and smart phones”

 From the research, do boys and girls share the same Internet usage? Explain your
answer. Cite statistics or data.

Four in ten teenagers believe they are addicted to the internet with girls affected more than
boys, a survey found. Youngsters are increasingly displaying signs of compulsion to use their
tablets and smartphones, including taking their devices to bed and in some cases even preferring
the company of gadgets to people. The survey, which questioned more than 2,000 secondary
school pupils aged 11 to 17, found that 39 per cent believe they are addicted to the internet. The
igure was higher among girls at 46 per cent, whereas 36 per cent of boys thought they were
addicted.

• Cite one real life example in your school or community of teenagers who have experienced
computer addiction. What happened to them? Have they recovered from their addiction?

Depression was certainly a factor for Connor when his interest in computer games
developed seven years ago. He had been through a lot: knocked down by a car aged 12, he had
been left with a permanent limp. He’d witnessed me and his father divorce, and we’d moved
house from London to Surrey. And on top of all that, Connor had begun working for his pre-
university requirements. So I didn’t understand — at first — how important the computer had
become for him.

• Give two pieces of advice from Tablets for Schools to avoid computer addiction.

1. Admit you are at risk of an addiction. More and more people in the world are
becoming addicted to the internet. You are not the only one with this problem, it is
becoming more and more common and more and more well known. Do not be
embarrassed; find others with the same problem and help each other beat it
2. Set aside limited time for computer use. Make sure not to turn it on too many times a
week. If you have a laptop, make sure to put it somewhere that you can remember but not
somewhere that you see every day. Try keeping the lid closed when you are not using it;
when the computer is not looking at you, you are less likely to use it. If you have a
desktop PC, try not to go near it or put something over it like a sheet. If you are using a
tablet or a smartphone you can buy a cover and cover the tablet and put it in a location
such as a drawer or closet. You can hide the charging cable for the laptop, smartphone, or
tablet as well.

3. Summarize the answers.

Youngsters were also urged to ‘switch off and sleep’ and ‘don’t use your device as a
clock, invest in a real alarm clock.’ The charter also said that students should protect their study
time, and new ‘boredom busters’ - activities they enjoy away from using the internet - and
dedicate certain times of the day or week to being ‘unplugged’.
