Music drama is a type of serious musical theatre. Musical theatre is a form of
theatrical performance combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story
and emotional content of a musical – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated
through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as a
whole. Although musical theatre overlaps with other theatrical forms like opera and
dance, it may be distinguished by the equal importance given to the music as
compared with the dialogue, movement and other elements. Since the early 20th
century, musical theatre stage works have generally been called, simply, musicals.
There are diverse musical theatres throughout the history such as The Sound of Music,
Singing in the Rain. And in there are even more tv shows and movies adapted with
these elements. High School Musical and La La Land are one of those movies using
musical and theatrical elements as the base of the film.
Example, The Sound of Music is a 1965 American musical drama film produced and
directed by Robert Wise, and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The
film is an adaptation of the 1959 Broadway musical The Sound of Music, composed
by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The film's screenplay was
written by Ernest Lehman, adapted from the stage musical's book by Howard Lindsay
and Russel Crouse. And La La Land is a 2016 American musical romantic comedy-
drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, and starring Ryan Gosling and
Emma Stone as a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los
Angeles. The film's title refers both to the city of Los Angeles and to the idiom for
being out of touch with reality.
As for our recital, we are using the same technique as well. But it will be much
simpler than those that are presented in the ovies. Drama acting adapted with songs
used in which the contents are parallel to each other.
P3 – Plan my recital
As just mentioned, our performance involves ‘Awards’ like the event Grammy
Awards. Therefore, we also designed a few awards for the nominees, which will be
present on the day of the performance. The following are the awards that we prepared
for our recital:-
1. The best teacher award
- most popular teacher in our school that students love him/her
In this song “Try Everything”, We choose Kamen as our vocalist because his voice
range can fit into this song. Keith and Yvonne volunteer to be the guitarist so we
decided to give them the chance. Few of us like Sean and Oscar, they have the skill on
playing the instruments like bass and piano since young so the two of them will
automatically be that post. Uki chosen to play the keyboardist because she say she
wants to learn to play it.
