Kls XI Aksel Compound sentences

If two sentences or more joined tog ether,they will form a compound sentence.

For joining those sentences conjunctions are needed..Observe the following sentences and

the use of each conjunction being used .

1. And, also, besides , moreever,furthermore, indeed,in addition are usually used to show

addition or to show that the sentences that are joined are parallel.

Examples :

Ari studies book keeping,and Rini studies administration.

Parera takes a computer course ;besides he takes an English course .

The land in this area is fertile ; furthermore ,irrigations function well.

Mr.Alfons Siregar runs a bookstore : also he manages a radio repairshop.

2. But,yet,however,nevertheless,still,on the contrary,on the other hand,in contrast,

,in spite of that,conversely are usually used to show contrast

Example :

Hadi was studying hard for the test ,but Daniel was playing the guitar.

Most people go to work in the morning;however ,Hendro goes to work in the afternoon.

The government is working hard to replant the forest ; on the other hand ,several

Irresponsible people are cutting wood illegally.

3. So,therefore ,consecuently ,thus, as a result are usually used to show result

Example:

More and more students graduate from SLTA every year; consecuently ,more univer
 sities are needed .

Jawa is densely populated ,so transmigrationis the best way to transfer people.

The Palapa Satellite functions properly ; therefore ,telecommunication in Indonesia

improve a lot.

Andri is never absent from school; thus,he makes a lot of progress

4.For,since,because,as,are used to show reason.

Example :

Many foreign tourists come to Indonesia ; because ,we have beautiful views.

Last year Tatang got a bad score in mathematics,for he didn’t pay attention

In class.

Sinta was a member of the Paskibra last August ; since she was the best student

In her province .

5.Or and nor are used to show contrast or alternation ( choise)

Example :
Is Didi working in the city or is he stuying?
Ketut can work in this room,or he can paint outside .
Ambar doesn’t want to be a secretary .nor do I.
Radito doesn’t eat meat ,nor does he drink milk
Notice that after nor the word-order of the sentence changes.
There are some other conjunction which are called correlative conjunction .They are
usually used in pairs to join two parallel sentence elements .
They are

either……………or……………
neither……………nor……………..
both…………….and…………………..
not only………………..but also……………….

Example:
Either anton himself has to stop smoking ,or his wife has to force him.
Indonesia is known not only for its tourism ,but also it is known for its people’s
hospitality
Not only are banks important in capital investment ,but they are also controlling the
circulation of money .
Mrs.Damaris speaks neither French nor English.
This book sells best not only here ,but also abroad.
