1 Introduction
1.1 About the document
This document provides the revisions of qualified firmware for all qualified network switches
supported for use in the Experion PKS Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE) network.
1.2 Purpose
The main purpose of this document is to provide a reference for each qualified switch firmware
versions that are used in the FTE Network. It also addresses concerns and recommendation on
support.

2 FTE Qualified Switch Firmware Versions
The following tables contain the qualified firmware versions for each supported switch.
Previously qualified versions are listed in gray. Although previously qualified, it is recommended to
update to the latest qualified version, because Honeywell only qualifies new firmware versions
because of security, system/EPKS/FTE compatibility, or bug fixes and does not recommend all
updates released by vendors.
2.1 Qualified Cisco Switches

2.1.1 Honeywell Policy for Qualifying Cisco IOS Versions
When Honeywell qualifies a new Cisco switch, the Cisco IOS version found to be the most
compatible with Experion PKS is used for the qualification. Cisco may issue a later IOS version
with fixes (e.g., security vulnerabilities) or recommend a different release. However, Honeywell
only qualifies a later version if the version contains a fix or security issue for features used by
FTE. When the updates only affects functions that are not used by the Experion PKS FTE
Network, there is no need to qualify the new version and install it at existing sites.
Honeywell’s latest FTE qualified IOS version may not be the latest IOS version offered and
recommended by Cisco. If a switch is removed from FTE service and reapplied in another
application, the switch should be considered for update to the latest Cisco recommended IOS
version.

1 – Prior to updating the IOS from c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-4.E to c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-2.E6,
save the switch’s running configuration. After updating the IOS (“edge” errors may occur) and, prior to
using the switch, change all instances of the command “spanning-tree portfast edge” to “spanning-tree
portfast” and load this new configuration. These changes can be applied without clearing/erasing the
switch’s existing configuration.
2.1.3 Important Note for Cisco IOS Updates
Only the above IOS versions are supported by FTE. If more than one IOS version is listed
for a switch, the latest version will be shipped from the Honeywell factory. Although all IOS
versions listed are qualified for use with EPKS, it is recommended the latest (first listed)
version be used in all EPKS systems. Earlier versions may have shortcomings and present
security and/or performance issues.
The IOS versions in the table may not be the version Cisco ships with the listed switches.
However, all Cisco switches ordered using the Honeywell Model part number will ship with
the correct IOS version. If Cisco switches are not purchased directly from Honeywell, the
purchaser must ensure the switches are loaded with a qualified IOS version, both initially
and if subsequent Experion PKS releases are installed. Cisco IOS firmware can be
obtained from Cisco via the Cisco web site. If a particular IOS file is not available from
Cisco, contact Honeywell TAC.

2.1.5.1 Replacement Recommendations

Due to advances in switching technology and security threats Honeywell is no longer
recommending the use of the 2950, 3550, and 2955 families of Cisco switches in the FTE
Network. Honeywell does not recommend the use of switches no longer supported by Cisco.
The 2950 series of switch end of support was 10/2013, the 3550 switches end of support
was 5/2011, and the 2955 switch end of support was 7/2018. The following replacements
are recommended:
The 2950 family of switches should be replaced with either 2960+ switches for 100 m/b
operation only or the 2960X family of switches, if future 1 GB operations is expected.
The 2955 switch should be replaced IE3000 switch family.
The 3550 switches should be replaced with the 3850 switches.
2.2 Qualified Aruba Hewlett Packard (HPE) Switches

2.2.1 Honeywell Policy for Qualifying Cisco IOS Versions
Honeywell’s latest FTE qualified software version may not be the latest software version offered
Aruba HPE. If a switch is removed from FTE service and reapplied in another application, the
switch should be considered for update to the latest Aruba HPE software version.
2.2.2 Aruba Hewlett Packard (HPE) switches

2.2.3 Important Note about HPE Software Versions

Only the above Software versions are supported by FTE. Aruba HPE switches ordered using the
Honeywell Model part number will ship with the correct software version. The Honeywell part
number is no longer available for the qualified Aruba HPE switches existing HP switches, or switches
sourced from other vendors, must be updated to the listed software version. Aruba HPE Software
can be obtained from the HP web site. If a particular software file is not available, contact
Honeywell TAC.
2.3 Qualified MOXA Switch

2.3.1 Honeywell Policy for Qualifying MOXA Firmware Versions
Honeywell’s has qualified a special version of OS for the MOXA switch being used in the
Experion PKS FTE system. It is recommended to order this part from Honeywell to ensure the
proper OS version.
2.3.2 MOXA switch

2.3.3 Important Note about MOXA OS Versions

Only the above Software versions are supported by FTE. Moxa switches ordered using the Honeywell
Model part number will ship with the correct OS version. Existing Moxa switches, or switches sourced
from other vendors, must be updated to the listed OS version. Moxa OS firmware can be obtained from
the Moxa web site. If the OS file is not available, contact Honeywell TAC.
2.4 Qualified Huawei Switches

2.4.1 Honeywell Policy for Qualifying Huawei VRP Versions
Honeywell’s latest FTE qualified VRP version may not be the latest software version offered
Huawei. If a switch is removed from FTE service and reapplied in another application, the
switch should be considered for update to the latest Huawei VRP version.
