FOREWORD

This ILOCANO LITURGIKON is approved for use in the diocese of San Fernando of La
Union until such a time that a similar Liturgikon, officially approved by the competent Sacred
Congregation in Rome, is made available.
This book is offered as a temporary relief to the busy parish clergy who are met with the
situation where they have to make do with tattered mimeographed copies of some rites since
they have become out of print, or must perform certain rites in English because no Ilocano
translation is available, or must themselves improvise a blessing rite as what they need is not
at hand.
It must be noted that the collection presented here is limited and contains options of the editor.
As is well known, the official liturgical books contain a number of options from which a
priest can make a choice or according to which he may make an arrangement for certain rites.
One would have to refer to the official books if he wanted to make his own choice or
arrangement.
The texts of the rites are from currently used translations, although some slight changes have
been made which were deemed appropriate for clarity's sake. Where no translation as
available, the editor has made the translation
This collection has been made originally for the personal use Df the editor himself. But at the
suggestion of his confreres, the editor has made copies available for those interested.
Explanatory Rites Anointing After Baptism
(The explanatory rites follow immediately. After these rites, confirmation is customarily
celebrated; hence the anointing after baptism is omitted.)
(If the celebration of confirmation is separated from baptism, the celebrant anoints the
candidate in the usual way after baptism. He says this prayer over the newly baptized.)
CELEBRANT Ti Dios nga Ama ni Apotayo a Jesu Cristo, linukatannaka iti amin a basol, ket
impaayna kenka ti baro a pannakaiyanak babaen ti danum ken ti Espiritu Santo, ken

pannakaisalakan. Maikaysaka koma ngarud ken Cristo a nalanaaan a Padi, Profeta ken Ari,
ket agbiagka a maikameng iti bagina a mairanod iti biag nga agnanayon.
(The celebrant anoints him on the crown of the head with the sacred chrism, in silence.)
Clothing with White Garment

NEWLY BAPTIZED: Amen.
(At the words "Awatem daytoy puraw a lupot . . ." the godparents place the white garment on
the newly baptized. If so desired, this rite maybe omitted.)
Presentation of the Lighted Candle
(The celebrant takes the Easter candle in his hands or touches it, saying:)
CELEBRANT: Dakay a manganak, gumangatkayo iti kandela a tanda ti silaw ni Cristo, ket
itedyo iti inanakyo.
(The godparents approach, light a candle from the Easter candle and hand it to the newly
baptized. The celebrant says:)
CELEBRANT: Nasilnaganka iti silaw ni Cristo. Agbiagka koma a kankanayon a kas anak
dayta a silaw, ket taginayonem a sirarangrang ti pammati ita pusom. Ket inton umay ti Apo,

CELEBRATION OF CONFIRMATION
(According to the ancient practice, maintained in the Roman Liturgy, an adult is not to be
baptized unless he receives confirmation immediately afterward. When the Bishop is not
present, confirmation may be given by the presbyter who conferred baptism.)
(The celebrant speaks briefly to the newly baptized in these or similar words: )
CELEBRANT Ni Cristo intedna kenka ti baro a pannakaiyanak babaen ti panagbuniagmo; ket
inkamengnaka iti
gimong dagiti annakna. lta, mairanudka met iti
