Digital 700 Trainer Leave Behind: Create a Tray Alignment Adjustment Setting Custom

Profile

Note: A Lexan Ruler can be ordered to help in the measurements for this procedure. The Part #
for the Lexan Ruler is 82E14570 and can be ordered through MAPS.

CUSTOMER must perform this alignment procedure before calling the Welcome Center,
or Service for alignment or miss-registration. This is a productivity enhancement for the
Digital 700.

Adjustments can be made to the image based on the alignment output of a document. Various
adjustments can be modified, such as image position, magnification, and skew.
NOTE: Further explanation:

• The Xerox 700DCP is baselined for 90GSM 11X17 inch paper for all alignment parameters. The
result of this is 90GSM media will fall within advertised specifications for trays 1 through 3.
(example Lead Edge registration will be within plus or minus .7mm)
• The result of this baseline setup will be that all other paper sizes and weights will fall within a
specification of plus or minus 2mm from Trays 1 through 3.
• If the customer uses, for example, 12X18 300GSM coated media, the registration could vary by
as much as 2mm
• If the customer is unhappy with the result they will be directed, by the Welcome Center, to create
a Custom Alignment Profile, for the media they are running, in customer tools (see attachment).
• If the result of using this tool is not satisfactory then a service call will be placed.
• As you can see it is very important that the customer knows how to set up a Custom Alignment
Profile for a specific Media that they use…..

The Alignment Adjustment setting is based on the type, size and weight of the paper. For
example, create a setting if you are experiencing skew while printing on Tabloid (279 x 432 mm
/ 11 x 17 in.) coated stock.

1. Make sure the paper size and type that will be used to adjust the alignment is loaded in
the paper tray.
2. Press the [Log In / Out] button on the Control Panel. The System Administrator Login
screen will be displayed.

Enter the System Administrator Login ID using the numeric keypad on the Control Panel
(default is 11111), and then select the [Enter] button on the Touch Screen.

NOTE: The System Administrator Login ID and Use ID are "11111" by default. If an
error is made, press the [Clear (C)] button and re-enter the ID. To cancel the operation,
select [Cancel]. If the administrator has a problem with changing the ID, or has forgotten
the ID, a service call must be placed.

15. To adjust the Skew:

Side 1

1. Measure 2A and then measure 2B. If the measurements are different perform the
following
2. Select [Skew], and then select the [Change Settings] button.
3. Enter a value for skew between -1.0 mm and +1.0 mm in .1 mm increments. If 2B
is greater then 2A enter a negative value, rotates the image to the right, if 2A is
greater then 2B enter a positive value, rotates the image to the left (see graphic on
UI adjustment screen). Make sure you enter this value in the [Side 1 Box] using
the UP/Down Arrow Buttons.
4. Measure 2C and 2D for 2nd side. Evaluate the same as side 1 in step #3.

2
Side 2
5. Make sure you enter this value in the [Side 2 Box] using the UP/Down Arrow
Buttons.
6. Select the [Save] button.
16. Repeat step 13 to print another sample and verify that the adjustments have been made. If
necessary, make additional adjustments as needed using steps 1-6 in the skew adjustment.
.
17. To Adjust Perpendicularity

Side 1
1. Measure the dimensions of 3A and 3B (Red lines show measurement). If the
measurements are different perform the following
2. Select Perpendicularity and select the [Change Settings] button
3. Enter a value for perpendicularity between –1.9 mm and +1.9 mm in .1 mm
increments.
4. If 3B is larger then 3A enter a negative value to move the image to the right. If
3B is smaller then 3A enter a positive value to move the image to the left (see
graphic on UI adjustment screen). Make sure you enter this value in the [Side 1
Box] using the UP/Down Arrow Buttons.
5. Measure 3C and 3D for 2nd side. Evaluate the same as side 1 in step #10. Make
sure you enter this value in the [Side 2 Box] using the UP/Down Arrow Buttons.

Side 2
6. Select the [Save] button.
18. Repeat step 13 to print another sample and verify that the adjustments have been made. If
necessary, make additional adjustments as needed using steps 1-6 in the skew adjustment.

19. To adjust the Magnification:

1. Check the sample output and measure the magnification offset amount that
occurred.

Side 1

Side 2
1. X direction Magnification Offset Amount = image reference length*
(5A) side 1 or (5C) side 2, in the X direction minus the actual image
measurement length of (5A) side 1 or (5C) side 2, in the X direction.
*Note: on 11X17 inch paper the X image reference length is 412mm
2. Y direction Magnification Offset Amount = image reference length*
(5B) side 1 or (5D) side 2 in the Y direction minus the actual image
4
measurement length of (5B) side 1 or (5D) side 2 in the Y direction.
*Note: on 11X17 inch paper the Y reference length is 260mm
3. Note: To calculate the “Reference Length” of any media take the actual
length or width in Millimeters and subtract 20mm.
2. If the reference length is different then the actual measurement you can adjust as
follows:
1. Select [X%] or [Y%], and then select the [Change Settings] button.
2. Enter the calculated percent offset amount of the X direction
Magnification you measured in step 1, for Side 1 and Side 2. If the
Magnification offset amount is positive, enter a negative value in the
adjustment value field. If negative, enter a positive value (see graphic on
UI adjustment screen).
Note: the values input into the Change Boxes for side 1 and side 2 are
percentages not the actual measured offset values. To change the X
value for 11X17 inch paper approximately 1mm you would have to
input a value of .250% into the change box. (1mm change divided by
412mm reference length = .00242). Use the Up/Down arrow buttons to
make change
3. Enter the calculated percent offset amount of the Y direction
To change the Y
value for 11X17 inch paper approximately 1mm you would have to
input a value of .375% into the change box. (1mm change divided by
260mm reference length = .00386) Use the Up/Down arrow buttons to
make change
4. If the Magnification offset amount is positive, enter a negative value in the
adjustment value field. If negative, enter a positive value (see graphic on
UI adjustment screen).
5. Select the [Save] button.
3. Repeat step 13 to print another sample and verify that the adjustments have been
made. If necessary, make additional adjustments as needed using steps 1-6 in the
skew adjustment.
20. To adjust the Print Positions:

NOTE: Adjust the position of the image in the lead edge and side edge direction in
relation to the paper feed direction by 0.1 mm increments for each of side (sides 1 and 2).
You can adjust up to 2.0 mm.

1. Check the sample output, and measure the print position offset amount that
occurred. The offset amount will be 10mm minus the actual reading.

2. X Print Position: Measure 4A and 4C (from the lead edge of the paper to the line
should be 10mm). If the measurement is less then 10mm specify a positive value
to move the position of the image in the opposite direction to the paper feed
5
direction. If the measurement is more then 10mm input a negative value to move
the position of the image in the paper feed direction (see graphic on adjustment
screen). Example if the actual measurement is 9mm the offset value will be
+1mm; if the actual measurement is 11mm the offset value will be -1mm.

3. Y Print Position: Measure 4B and 4D (from the side edge of the paper to line
should be 10mm) If the measurement is more then 10mm specify a positive value
to move the position of the image toward the back of the machine. If the
measurement is less then 10mm input a negative value to move the position of the
image toward the front of the machine (see graphic on adjustment screen).
Example if the actual measurement is 9mm the offset value will be -1mm, if the
actual measurement is 11mm the offset value will be +1mm
