Assignment: Baseline study on Irrigation Scheme in Awdal region
Specific objectives of the study
– To understand the challenges and opportunities of irrigated agriculture in the project area
– To determine crop water requirements for different crop types
– To identify the potential irrigation sources
– To assess the general condition of irrigation structures
– To identify the potential areas for canal extension

Assignment: Water supply system design of Hospitals and boarding Schools in Sool and Sanaag region
Main duties and responsibilities
– Assess water needs, available resources, health risks and the capacity of existing systems
– Identify suitable water sources (surface and ground water), confirm quality and quantity of water
available.
– Design and implement water storage and treatment systems including construction/installation
and maintenance of wells, protected springs, small and large tanks, power supply, pumping and
water quality monitoring.
– Design and implement water distribution systems including pipe trenching, laying, pressure
testing,
– Deliver training on water treatment, water quality testing, system management and maintenance to
technical staff, partner organisations, government counterparts and community management
teams.
– Prepare technical materials including drawings, BOQ, specifications for water supply
infrastructure.
– Develop, negotiate and manage contracts with service providers (may include preparing tender
documentation and evaluating capacity and quality of contractors).
2012- 2014 FAO-SWALIM, Water Resources Officer,
– Identify the strategic locations for specific interventions (e.g. areas for afforestation, reforestation
and agroforestry, terraced farming and rain water harvesting practices soil and water conservation
methods for soil stabilization and minimization of land degradation risks using GIS and Remote
Sensing.

– Recommend and facilitate the implementation of a range of effective community level watershed
management measures fitted to reduce direct physical impacts of high intensity rainfall events
(landslides) in climate vulnerable hotspots in the target area.

– Identify capacity development needs of implementing partners in soil and water conservation and
other NRM practices and in integration of recommended NRM practices in all the field
interventions.
