 Explain we don’t need to count the tens frame, if it is filled we know there is 10 and we can
count on
 Do +1 together as a class for an example, then have students do either +2 or +3
Transition Choose 1-2 students to share their work
Lesson Explain guided practice page, tell story about Jada and the boxes
Model counting on and writing the equation
Transition If students need it, do the first problem together on worksheet 569
Explain the last problem on the worksheets (reverse equation)
Work Time Send students to work on the rest independently
Give students paws if you catch them using math language as they write their equations (ie: “13 is a
group of 10 and 3 extra ones”)
Teachers walk around and help as needed
Early Finishers Challenge: students use the counting on method for every problem
Early finishers may move on to working with math work stations
Possible Strategies/Tools to Not counting the tens frame
