Title of your Case Study

I. Executive Summary
We all know that nowadays, people are using some kind of soaps that will make them look young
or maybe have their skins look brighter under the sun or some maybe wants to save money for a
dishwashing soap and hand sanitizer there is a manufacturing company wherein they are offering this
products for the people. Uni Elements Enterprise is a manufacturer of soaps, hand sanitizer, detergents
and washing powders. They are located in Valenzuela City. They usually manufacture soaps like kojic, yen
yen dishwashing soap, yen yen fabric conditioner and many more.
The purpose of conducting case study for this company is to review every areas particularly in
safety. So here are the points that we need to give attention:
 Safety Procedures
 Safety Hazards
 Casualties
 Safety Programs
As we conduct research for this company, we saw something very unusual for a firm like this. We
notice that they have employees who experienced something that may cause this firm to close if they
don’t settle the problem. It has been assumed that one of the employees is saying that he lost his
fingers while making soaps for a company and the company is refusing to give him any financial or
medical assistance. So in this case, we should study this assuming of the employee. I assumed that
maybe the safety programs that this firm has had failed during this instance. Maybe machines fault our
maybe the man’s fault. But apparently, it was already their 4 th worker to lose a finger while using the
same equipment but according to one of the employee, the other 3 receive a medical assistance but as
for him, he doesn’t receive anything.
As we continue to conduct more studies and analysis regarding this topic, rest assured
that we will be covering every details of this problem.
II. Statement of the Problem / Findings
 Uni Elements Enterprise is a manufacturer of soaps, hand sanitizer, detergents and washing
powders. In this study the researchers would like to know how Uni Elements Enterprise handles
the safety of their employees.
 The researchers will also try to find out if the Uni Elements Enterprise are giving the employees
enough assistance.

III. Analysis
Uni Elements Enterprise is a company that manufacture kojic gluta soaps, yen yen dishwashing
liquid, yen yen fabric conditioner and hand sanitizer. It is a company that focuses in soaps. Uni Elements
Enterprise has been in the business industry for years now. Its products can be seen everywhere and
cheap that is why many is in love in their products but how do they handle the safety of their employees.
Safety in the workplace is one of the things that should be consider in building a company. It is
important that the employees feel secure while working. If the employees feel like they are in danger it
would be difficult for them to continue working in the company. It might lead for the employee to leave the
company and a company needs employees to function.
Title of your Case Study
Rio Maunio a former employee of Uni Elements Enterprise got his finger cut while working at the
company. It was reported that Rio Maunio got his finger cut because of machine malfunction. Apparently
Maunio is already the fourth worker to lose a finger while using the same equipment. It is also reported that
Maunio was blamed for the accident and didn’t have the assistance that he should get. This just show the
poor safety management of the company and it need a lot of improvement so that this kind of accident
won’t happen again. Uni Element Enterprise is a company that manufactures soaps and those kinds of
products needs lots of chemical. Machine malfunction is not the only hazard that the workers might
encounter while working in the company. Uni Element Enterprise need a good safety and health
management program to avoid workplace accident in the future. Having safety and health management
program decreases the incident rate as well as injuries and illness rate.
Safety and Health Management is a proactive, collaborative process to find and fix workplace
hazards before employees are injured or become ill. The benefits of implementing safety and health
management systems include protecting workers, saving money, and making all the hazard-specific
programs more effective. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) has recommended
practices for safety and health management. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is
an agency of the United States Department of Labor. Congress established the agency under
the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which President Richard M. Nixon signed into law on December
29, 1970. OSHA's mission is to "assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women
by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance". The
agency is also charged with enforcing a variety of whistleblower statutes and regulations. Below are the
recommended safety and health management program:

CORE ELEMENTS OF THE SAFETY AND HEALTH PROGRAM RECOMMENDED PRACTICES

MANAGEMENT LEADERSHIP
• Top management demonstrates its commitment to continuous improvement in safety and health,
communicates that commitment to workers, and sets program expectations and responsibilities.
• Managers at all levels make safety and health a core organizational value, establish safety and
health goals and objectives, provide adequate resources and support for the program, and set a
good example.
WORKER PARTICIPATION
• Workers and their representatives are involved in all aspects of the program—including setting
goals, identifying and reporting hazards, investigating incidents, and tracking progress.
• All workers, including contractors and temporary workers, understand their roles and
responsibilities under the program and what they need to do to effectively carry them out.
• Workers are encouraged and have means to communicate openly with management and to
report safety and health concerns without fear of retaliation.
• Any potential barriers or obstacles to worker participation in the program (for example, language,
lack of information, or disincentives) are removed or addressed.
HAZARD IDENTIFICATION & ASSESSMENT
• Procedures are put in place to continually identify workplace hazards and evaluate risks.
Title of your Case Study
• Safety and health hazards from routine, nonroutine, and emergency situations are identified and
assessed.
• An initial assessment of existing hazards, exposures, and control measures is followed by
periodic inspections and reassessments, to identify new hazards.
• Any incidents are investigated with the goal of identifying the root causes.
• Identified hazards are prioritized for control.
HAZARD PREVENTION & CONTROL
• Employers and workers cooperate to identify and select methods for eliminating, preventing, or
controlling workplace hazards.
• Controls are selected according to a hierarchy that uses engineering solutions first, followed by
safe work practices, administrative controls, and finally personal protective equipment (PPE).
• A plan is developed to ensure that controls are implemented, interim protection is provided,
progress is tracked, and the effectiveness of controls is verified. EDUCATION & TRAINING
• All workers are trained to understand how the program works and how to carry out the
responsibilities assigned to them under the program.
• Employers, managers, and supervisors receive training on safety concepts and their responsibility
for protecting workers’ rights and responding to workers’ reports and concerns.
• All workers are trained to recognize workplace hazards and to understand the control measures
that have been implemented.
PROGRAM EVALUATION & IMPROVEMENT
• Control measures are periodically evaluated for effectiveness.
• Processes are established to monitor program performance, verify program implementation, and
identify program shortcomings and opportunities for improvement.
• Necessary actions are taken to improve the program and overall safety and health performance.
COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION FOR HOST EMPLOYERS, CONTRACTORS, AND STAFFING
AGENCIES
• Host employers, contractors, and staffing agencies commit to providing the same level of safety
and health protection to all employees.
• Host employers, contractors, and staffing agencies communicate the hazards present at the
worksite and the hazards that work of contract workers may create on site.
• Host employers establish specifications and qualifications for contractors and staffing agencies.
• Before beginning work, host employers, contractors, and staffing agencies coordinate on work
planning and scheduling to identify and resolve any conflicts that could affect safety or health.

Following this recommended safety and health management by OSHA will help Uni Elements
Enterprise to improve the safety of the workplace. Some of the benefit when the program is implemented:

 Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses

 Improve compliance with laws and regulations
 Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers' compensation premiums
 Engage workers
 Enhance their social responsibility goals
Title of your Case Study
 Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations

Uni Elements Enterprise might be a small company and might not be able to afford a sudden change
but they can start with a basic program and gradually expand it. This program is not a loss to them but this
will be in their advantage. This will help them have a sound business.
