Sangkuriang

Orientation A very long time ago in West Java, there lived a king named Raden
Sungging Pebangkara. He liked hunting in the forest. When he was hunting, he
pounded onto a coconut shell filled. A few moment later, a she-pig (cursed
goodness) came out of her hiding place looking for water. She saw a coconut
shell filled with water. She didn’t know that it was the king’s urine which mixed
with his sperm. So, she had pregnant and gave birth to a very pretty girl named
Dayang Sumbi. She Married with Tumang (he was a dog cursed God), because
she had a promise to married with her helper and Tumang was the helper. And
then, they had a healthy strong son whom she called Sangkuriang.

Complication Their son Sangkuriang grew become a handsome and strong man. One
day, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to looking for flesh in a wood. He looking
for it with Tumang. After he rounded the wood, he didn’t find any pig for he took
the flesh. When he looked the pig, Tumang didn’t obey him to chase the pig.
Sangkuriang was very angry and he killed Tumang (his father) and put out its
flesh. Sangkuriang came back to home without Tumang and Dayang Sumbi was
very angry because of that. She flung a spool to him. It made a scar on the spot
and Dayang Sumbi sent him away.
Sangkuriang left and wandered through the woods. He walked for years.
He native in a village where there were Dayang Sumbi. He falls in love with
Dayang Sumbi because She had been given eternal beauty by the gods.
Sangkuriang didn’t know if she was his mother, and same like Dayang Sumbi.
They made plans for their wedding day, but one day she discovered the scar on
his forehead. She knew that he was her own son who had come back to his
village. She made an effort to make him understand that marriage between them
was impossible, but Sangkuriang refused to accept it.

Resolution She had an idea to canceled their marriage. She gave some requirement to him, to
dammed up the Citarum River and built a big vessel all in one night. Sangkuriang
accepted her requirement and did them with his magic power. Before
Sangkuriang finished his work, Dayang Sumbi made a plan for foil an attempt of
Sangkuriang. She dischareged her magic power to her red veil. It was giving him
impression that the sun was rising and the time was up.

Re-Orientation Angrily, Sangkuriang kicked the vessel which was almost finished,
upside down. Sometimes later, the vessel became the mountain.
From the story of Sangkuriang made the Story Legend of Tangkuban
Perahu on the nourthern of Bandung.
