Programs
The following programs are offered at Southeastern’s
Department of Music and Performing Arts:
• Bachelor of Music in Music Education
• Bachelor of Music in Performance
• Master of Music in Performance, Music Theory,
Instrumental Conducting, and Choral Conducting
In addition, the department offers a minor in music, and
students may choose a music concentration as part of
the General Studies program.
Performing Opportunities
Southeastern offers wonderful possibilities for string
players in the performing field. Students may become
members of the University Chamber and Symphony
Orchestras, presenting standard repertoire, opera, as
well as contemporary works, pops, family and thematic
concerts. Faculty members and guest artists collaborate
with these ensembles every season, bringing a unique
opportunity for students to meet first-class musicians as
part of their learning process. Selected students are given
the chance of soloing with the orchestra through the
Concerto Competition held on campus every year.
The department has an intense Chamber Music pro-
gram, which organizes on and off campus performances,
providing important career opportunities for ensembles
that want to focus on their professional promotion.
Scholarships and assistantships
Consideration for scholarships is given during a student’s
audition for study in the department. Graduate students
are eligible for graduate assistantships, which include
a stipend in addition to tuition and non-resident fees.
Responsibilities may include classroom teaching, applied
lessons and/or assisting in ensemble programs. For

Additional Opportunities
Opportunities for employment through the Department
of Music and Performing Arts include student aides,
positions as ensemble librarians, lab monitors and more.
Inquire with ensemble directors for additional informa-
tion. Qualified applied students may supplement their
incomes and gain valuable guided teaching experience
in the Southeastern Community Music School.

Master Classes and Lectures
Master classes and lectures are usually offered by
prominent soloists while visiting Southeastern. Our
Strings Division has enjoyed the professorship of such
figures as Illya Kaller, Yuri Zhislin, the Moscow Piano Trio,
Nora Romanoff-Schwarzberg, Georgy Valtchev, Madison
Day, and Washington Garcia to name a few.
Admission Process
String players interested in applying to Southeastern’s
Department of Music must contact Violin Professor
and Orchestra Director Dr. Victor Correa-Cruz at
victor.correa-cruz@southeastern.edu in order to schedule
an audition and for information on audition require-
ments and scholarships. On-campus auditions and
interviews are strongly recommended. However, if an
on-campus audition is not possible, audio and/or video
tapes of performances may be submitted.
