Carmeda® BioActive Surface
Carmeda® BioActive Surface is a durable, non-leaching End Point Attached heparin biocompatible surface technology
that enhances blood compatibility and provides thromboresistant blood-contacting surfaces for cardiopulmonary bypass
circuit devices. It has the largest body of peer-reviewed clinical and scientific evidence of any biocompatible surface used
for cardiopulmonary bypass devices today. For pediatric patients and adults, Carmeda® BioActive Surface is an important
component of routine and complex extracorporeal circulation procedures.
· Heparin molecules are covalently bonded into the surface using an End Point Attachment Process.
· The End Point Attached method assures that the heparin active binding sites are properly oriented to remain free
to participate in biological reactions, similar to the orientation of heparan sulfate molecules naturally found on the
vascular endothelium.
· A high degree of bioactivity is consistently delivered due to the unique Carmeda® BioActive Surface chemistry and its
sophisticated manufacturing process.
Carmeda® is a registered trademark of Carmeda A.B., Sweden. This product is coated with the Carmeda® BioActive Surface
under license from Carmeda A.B., and is licensed for use only as part of an extracorporeal blood circulation system or
circuit that includes an oxygenator or blood pump.
A strict anticoagulation protocol should be followed and anticoagulation should be routinely monitored during all procedures.
The benefits of extracorporeal support must be weighted against the risk of systemic anticoagulation and must be assessed by
the prescribing physician.

ARTERIAL CANNULAE
Arterial Cannulae are intended to deliver oxygenated blood to the heart. Medtronic understands
the importance of gentle flow in the often fragile aorta, and we offer a number of different
product variations to facilitate a variety of surgical techniques and patient anatomies. Our
pediatric arterial cannulae are available in sizes from 6 Fr to 16 Fr for pediatric patients in a variety
of tip configurations, lengths, and connector sizes to meet your specific needs.

DLP® One-Piece Pediatric Arterial Cannulae
DLP One-piece Pediatric Arterial Cannulae are designed to deliver arterial return during cardiopulmonary
bypass while optimizing access within the sternotomy space on even the smallest pediatric patients. Models
range in size from 6 Fr to 16 Fr for pediatric patients. Features include beveled, thin-wall tips, and elongated
one-piece, kink-resistant wirewound bodies. This construction allows for higher flow rates with minimal pressure
differential. An adjustable introducer allows for variable extension beyond the tip, and depth marks on the
ARTERIAL CANNULAE
body permit precise positioning of the cannulae. The exclusive Flow-Guard™ feature provides hemostasis while
priming the cannulae.

Antegrade Cannulae are designed to deliver Cardioplegia solution to the heart via the coronary
ostia in the normal direction of blood flow (antegrade perfusion). Aortic root cannulae are
intended to either aspirate air from the aorta or infuse cardioplegia solution directly into the
aortic root near the aortic valve. We offer pediatric aortic root cannulae in varying lengths to
accommodate various techniques and patient anatomies. Our product breadth ensures the

DLP® Aortic Root Cannulae
DLP Aortic Root Cannulae can be used to either infuse cardioplegia solutions into the aortic root or to aspirate air
from the aorta. These cannulae feature radiopaque tips with 2 side holes, which are attached to clear bodies. The
flanged collar provides a predetermined insertion depth as well as a means of securing the cannula. All cannulae
are supplied with a stainless steel introducer needle. Aortic root cannulae are offered in the standard 5.5 in
length or a shortened 2.5 in. Model 12218 features ribs on the cannula body to prevent kinking.

DLP Cardioplegia Needles are used to infuse cardioplegia into the aortic root. These needles
feature stainless steel tips with a plastic depth stop. These needles are attached to flexible PVC

retrograde PERFUSION CANNULAE
Retrograde Cannulae are designed to deliver Cardioplegia solution to the heart via the coronary
sinus in the reverse direction of normal blood flow (retrograde perfusion). These pediatric cannulae
are offered in manual-inflate cuff models. The purpose of the cuff is to occlude the opening of the
coronary sinus, forcing cardioplegia flow to the coronary vessel bed of the heart. These pediatric
cannulae have silicone bodies and are offered with or without a guidewire stylet. Manual-inflate
models require the clinician to inflate the cuff prior to delivering cardioplegia. Our product breadth
ensures the availability of a cannula to meet your specific needs.

Gundry® RCSP Cannulae with Manual-Inflate Cuff
The Gundry Silicone RCSP Cannulae are designed to deliver Cardioplegia solution to the heart through the
coronary sinus. This cannula features a kink-resistant wirewound silicone body and a smooth manual-inflate cuff.
This cannula includes a pressure monitoring line with an integral stopcock and a guidewire stylet with a male
luer handle. A syringe is included for cuff inflation.

Cardioplegia adapters are designed to permit customization of the cardioplegia circuit. Adapters
can be used to connect multiple cardioplegia cannulae and/or vein graft cannulae to a single inlet
source, switch between antegrade and retrograde delivery of cardioplegia, and to provide the
option for attaching a vent line to the cardioplegia cannulae. Additional adapters are available to
extend the length of the cardioplegia circuit, recirculate the cardioplegia solution or provide an
extension to the pressure monitoring line.

This product features soft tubing with a female luer
on the inlet port. This inlet port splits into three
legs that terminate in male luers. The legs have
color-coded clamps with varying lengths for easy
identification and organization. These legs are set in
a mounting bracket with adhesive pads on the back.
The red clamp leg has a length of 10 in (25.4 cm), the

monitoring of the aorta and the coronary arteries. This adapter

of a pressure monitoring needle near the connection to the
cardioplegia cannula. The swivel male locking luer
is designed to allow for the adapter to be connected to
the cannula and moved out of the incision site.
