Notes from STEAM:

In the next few newsletters, I will be focusing on what we are doing in each grade level. This week we are focusing
on Kindergarten. The Kindergarteners have just completed their second STEAM module - Structure and Function :
Human Body.  After hearing a fictional story about a girl named, Angelina, that fell on the playground and hurt her
arm, they began investigating how our bodies work and how our bones fit together.  We zoomed into our body and
investigated major structures of the body and identified organs that perform different functions.  Through stations,
we used models to: understand how our bones and muscles work together, see our lungs take in oxygen, and look
at how our food food travels down the esophagus into the stomach.  As the story progressed, Angelina went to the
hospital to have an x-ray taken of her arm.  We made handprints with white paint and solved a puzzle of bones and
glued pieces onto our hands.  After Angelina’s diagnosis of a broken arm, the Kindergarteners worked together
through the engineering design process to design, create, test and evaluate a cast.  Our next unit will be Pushes
and Pulls.

Have a great weekend! ~Mrs. Kunzi
