Bulletin – 031 Mandatory Repair – Harness Behind Toner Hopper May Become
Damaged
SYMPTOM:
The harness behind the Toner Hopper Unit may become damaged, as shown in the photos below.
NOTE: If the harness has been damaged severely, a short circuit may occur and damage the PCB: CNB
(P/N - D0145440).

CAUSE:
The harness is pinched and will ultimately become damaged by the positioning pin shown in the photo
below.

SOLUTION:
Perform the following procedure:
1. Remove the Toner Hopper Unit from the machine. (See Remove Toner Hopper Procedure in this
bulletin.)

2. Bind harnesses [B] and [C] together, as shown by clamp “[a]” below.
3. Bind harnesses [A], [B], and [C] together, as shown by clamp “[b]”.
NOTE: The part number of the binder is P/N – 11050046 (Harness Band).

IMPORTANT: Make sure to lead the harness around the area circled in red in the photo. The harness should
not pass through this area.

UNITS AFFECTED:
All D081/D082 copiers listed below and manufactured after the serial numbers provided will have the
harness procedure performed during production.
• To avoid damaging the toner end sensor, make sure that the main power switch is turned off and
that the power cord is disconnected from the power source before you remove the hopper.
• Always make sure that the support leg is down and locked before you remove the hopper.
6. Lift the toner hopper off its rails and set it on the floor.
• The hopper is heavy, so lift it carefully. Make sure the hopper unit tabs have disengaged completely
from the rails before you try to set the unit on the floor.
7. Push the hopper rails into the machine.
