I. Topic or Title: Food Keeper & Budget Tracker App

II. Rationale
According to Casiana Blanca J. Villarino, Ph.D. Department of Food Science and Nutrition
College of Home Economics, UP Diliman as of 19 March 2018, Filipino’s do often get their meals to
fast food restaurants and convenient stores. More than 1/3 of Filipino households take their meals
outside their homes which resulted to a problem that fewer home food items are needed to be cooked.
If people do not consume home food before expiration, it will be going to end up wasting food. The
Food Keeper & Budget Tracker application aims to prevent food wastage that helps keep track of food
item expiration dates and gives you notification alerts when food is about to expire. There are existing
applications that also tracks food expiration but does took a lot of time and effort because of the manual
entry of product details and expiry. One of the proposed improvements is to implement a barcode
scanner for automatic product name discovery and automatic food expiration discovery that will reduce
time taken by the manual entry. Due to food wastage issue, the application also introduces a feature
that lets you track and manage your budget that aims people to track food, to know when to buy.

III. Technical Previews (Sources of Information)

Primary Data: Universidad De Manila
Secondary Data: Other University and Colleges who have a School Queue Management System
Others: Published study regarding the Queue Management System abroad.

IV. Expected Output/Objectives

General Objective:
The general objective of the study is to develop a mobile application “Food Keeper & Budget
Tracker App” that tracks food expiration and helps people to monitor and manage their expenses.

Specific Objectives:
Specifically, it aims to:
It specifically aims to:
1. Design a grading, enrollment and registration system that will cater and integrate major
processes during registration, enrollment and releasing of grades in more efficient,
effective, and widely accessible with the following features:
a. Ability to have different user level, each user level have different access on the system;
b. Registration Module which has the capability to add, edit, and delete information
regarding the student;
c. Module for adding new courses, with its corresponding curriculum;
d. Feature for updating the curriculum;
e. Capability for assigning the number of sections per course;
f. Component for opening the subjects per course and section with its corresponding room
and faculty assignment;
g. Attribute to auto enroll regular student;
h. Element of advising for irregular student and selecting their subject with auto detection
for pre requisite and conflict of schedules;
i. Capacity to add/drop/change the schedules of those enrolled student;
j. Means for the faculty member to encode the grade based on their assigned loads;
k. Facility to print the grades of student during releasing of grades;
l. Potential to cater the students who would want to shift their course;
m. Adeptness to entertain user level for student so that they can view their grades;
n. Aptitude to detect students who have double warning status and recommend necessary
action based on the existing policy and guideline of the university, and
o. Proficiency to provide various reports as needed by the administration, faculty member
and students.
2. Create the system using the following application programs:
a. Hypertext Markup Language as the lingua franca of the web;
b. Cascading Style Sheets which provides the capability to control the way in which
HTML elements are laid out and displayed;
c. PHP as a server-side scripting language for Web programming;
d. Helper applications which provide supports for viewing in common graphics format;
e. JavaScript as a client-side scripting language for Web programming;
f. MySQL as database management system software; and
g. XAMPP which provides compatibility for the PHP and MySQL run in Window base
platforms;
3. Test and improve the system based on:
a. Functionality, which assess the multiple web browser and resolution compatibility, fast
speed of page loading, and proper working of web pages, links, images, and videos;
b. Content, which is a set of elements that weigh the nature and goal of the website, the
quality, organization, accuracy and accessibility of information of the website’s
contents;
c. Design, which deals with the organization of links, layout and visual appeal of the
website;
d. Technology used in the development of the system; and
e. Originality of the concepts of website; and
4. Evaluate the performance of the developed system using the 2012 Philippine Web-Award
criteria
5. Document the output of the system.
