Students' and Teachers' Perceptions of Physical Education

Students and teachers have a range of perceptions of Physical Education and how it affects students and
their learning. Past research has indicated that Physical Education can influence students‟ academic
results as well as their physical development. This study identified and investigated the perceptions of
students and teachers towards Physical Education and its effect on the students and their learning at
one school. Through the use of semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, observations and member-
checking surveys, students and teachers shared their perceptions of Physical Education. These
perceptions show that teachers and students believe that Physical Education has not only physical
benefits for students, but that Physical Education can also positively influence students mentally,
emotionally and socially. The social aspect of Physical Education is perceived to be either positive or
negative for students depending on how the teacher manages the class. Many students and teachers
perceived Physical Education to be enjoyable for students and beneficial to their development. Physical
Education has the potential to impact students on a spiritual level although the degree to which this
occurs is difficult to determine. This study also showed that the way Physical Education is timetabled
and taught can have an impact on the way students and teachers perceive this curriculum area

2. An assessment of the sporting facilities available for prisoners and proposals as to

how make inmates 'fit for release'.
This dissertation contains two distinct aspects. The first is a critique and evaluation of existing gym
facilities available to prisoners at Tacloban City Jail. This part of the dissertation will consist of an
audit of facilities as well as the evaluating of data received from prisoners upon two wings who have
volunteered to give their opinions of the facilities presently open to them. The second part of the
dissertation relates to the concern that many inmates are, whilst inside, either denied access to keep
fit facilities ort choose to vegetate rather than keeping their minds and bodies active. Noting that
educational sessions are mandatory for inmates, this dissertation proposes that, based on the
opinions of staff, inmates, and professional health workers, physical exercise should become a
mandatory element of daily prison life. In so doing, it seeks to assess the potential health and safety
and security risks of implementing a daily 'yard workout' in lower category prisons throughout

3. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GREAT FILIPINO WORKOUT PROGRAM OF

GOVERNMENT AGENCIES IN TACLOBAN CITY: A CASE STUDY

In 1995, the Civil Service Commission in the Philippines launched “The Great Filipino
Workout” program which directed all government agencies to allot reasonable time for
regular physical fitness exercise. The study assessed the implementation processes of the
program of government agencies in Tacloban City. Specifically, it aimed to find out the
methodology of implementing the said program and the preferred or suggested physical
fitness activities. Anchored on the Physical Activity Maintenance theory, this qualitative
research and used multiple case study. Participants were selected through a purposive
sampling of the five selected government agencies in Tacloban City. Data were collected
through an in-depth interview and triangulation was established in the paper. This study is
important to show if the program of government agencies meets the guidelines of the CSC
for program development and implementation. Such program should be given priority to
improve the current positive level of satisfaction of the employees.
