Q1 Give reasons for the following-
i) Nitrogen is a gas whereas Phosphorous is a solid.
ii) Oxygen is a gas whereas Sulphur is a solid.
iii) H2O is a liquid whereas H2S is a gas.
iv) NH3 has more boiling point than PH3.
v) Nitrogen has higher ionization enthalpy than Oxygen.
vi) Chlorine has higher negative value of electron gain enthalpy than Flourine.
vii) H3PO3 undergoes disproportionation reaction.
viii) H3PO4 cannot undergo disproportionation reaction.
ix) H3PO3 is a reducing agent whereas H3PO4 is not.
x) Basicity of H3PO4 is three whereas that of H3PO3 is two.
xi) Bleaching action of SO2 is temporary whereas that of Cl2 is permanent.
xii) Moist SO2 is reducing in nature.

xv) Interhalogen compounds are more reactive than halogens.
xvi) White Phosphorous is more reactive than red Phosphorous.
xvii) Out of all noble gases maximum compounds are formed by Xe.
xviii) Highest oxidation states are shown in compounds of Fluorine and Oxygen.
xix) Out of Fluorine and Oxygen, Oxygen forms more stable complexes.
xx) SF4 can be hydrolised whereas SF6 can’t.
xxi) PCl5 exists but NCl5 does not.
xxii) ClF3 exists but FCl3 doest not.
xxiii) NF3 is exothermic whereas NCl3 is endothermic.
