ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim…..

Assalamualaikum, firstly we are very grateful to Allah s.w.t to give us some space to
successfully complete this project for this semester. We would like to thanks to our lecturers,
Encik Indastri bin Saion and Dr. Rosalam bin Che Me for his guiding and helping us in this
project from the beginning to its completion for subject IND3801 Material and Manufacturing
Technology.

Next appreciation is to our parents and friends who always help and give a lot of support
and help during completing this project.

In this semester project, we were given a task that helps to develop our knowledge about
material and manufacturing process. The task may not complete as perfect as the expectation,
but we surely thankful and enjoy the learning process outcomes and also experience in
completing this project.

We hope this project will give some advantages for people who may take this as
reference. Every mistake in this project hoped to be forgiven.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Material is a broad term for a chemical substance or mixture of substances that

constitute a thing. Materials are the matter of universe. These substances have
properties – useful in structures, machines, devices, tools and systems. Engineering
materials is a term often used to define most material that related into products.

The “Science” focuses on discovering the nature of materials, which in turn

leads to theories that explain how structure relates to composition, properties and
behaviour. While, the “Engineering” deals with use of the science in order to develop,
prepare, modify and apply materials to meet specific needs.

Design criteria for materials are strength-stiffness, toughness (area under the
σ−ε curve) and fracture toughness, formability, joint ability, corrosion resistance,
operating temperature, coefficient of thermal expansion, recyclability and cost.

Materials are classified according to many different criteria including their

physical and chemical characteristics as well as their intended applications. There are
thousands of materials available for use in engineering applications. Most materials fall
into one of four classes based on the atomic bonding forces of a particular material.
These four classifications are metallic, ceramic, polymeric and composite.

In this IND3801 Material and Manufacturing Technology subject, we are

divided into a group of two and do the group assignment task. We are given task to find
a product in the market that have many types of component or parts in it such as hair
dryer, hand drill, iron, home telephone, induction cooker and many more. The product
must have more than 50 parts.

For our group, we have choose the single induction cooker as the product
assignment. The main objective of this assignment is to identify materials of the parts
in the product chosen. This assignment is very important for us as industrial students
to identify the materials and also the manufacturing process of the product.

4
Furthermore, by doing this assignment, we can improve our knowledge in
materials and process on manufacturing of a product. Besides, this assignment will
increase our model making skills when we want to determine the materials that fit to
the model or product. Without this knowledge, we will lack of information to define
the kind of materials to be used.

As a conclusion, this assignment is very important for us because it is related to

our course, increase our knowledge about materials and its process and also easier for
us in the future to determine or choose the fit materials in our product model making.

1.1 OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this project are:

i. Reveal research and development activities in designing products.

ii. Exposing research and development activities in product design through
the selection of various types of materials with the suitability of nature
characteristics, specifications, applications, manufacturing and
production processes.

5
2.0 PRODUCT DESIGN

2.1 Name of product

Electrolux Induction Cooker (ETD33SF)

2.2 Characterization

The characterization of this product is inspired from the conventional

gas stove. This product is made with totally electrical system and applied with
latest technology to suit the situation to make easier life for human. This
electrical stove is totally supported by electric power through the portable cable.
The design is smaller, lightweight and easy to carry. Thus, this product can bring
for travel. The flat based of the product is design for balance to hold the stainless
steel on the top. This product also inserted the gripping rubber on the bottom
based for grip and static placed. Most important thing from the design
characteristics the product is safe for the user and kids. From the picture above
we can observe the product.

6
2.3 Feature

The feature of the product is combination of two major concept,

aesthetics and functional. Firstly, from the aesthetics view this product applied
combination of minimalace and urban style. Minimalace is known the simple
but attracted and urban style follow the era. Thus, from the combination of this
element the product will reach the highest level and specification needed by the
industry. Secondly, the functionality of this product is based from the physical
characteristics. The product is design for the kitchen or any places that have
limited spaces. The product is totally use electric power supply is ease to handle
compared from the conventional stove that use the gas. The design also safe to
use from everybody especially for the kids and elders person.

4.0 CONCLUSION

As the conclusion, we learn from this assignment is about manufacturing

process where raw materials are transformed into a final product. The manufacturing
process begins with the creation of the materials from which the design is made.

Besides that, these materials are then modified through manufacturing processes
to become the required part. Manufacturing process can include treating (such as heat
treating or coating), machining or reshaping the materials. The manufacturing process
also includes tests and checks for quality assurance during or after the manufacturing
and planning the production process prior to manufacturing.

Last but not least, this assignment is very important for us because it is related
to our course, increase our knowledge about materials and its process and also easier
for us in the future to determine or choose the fit materials in our product model making.
