 Objective:
How can we find liquid limit (pL).
Find the propertes of any soil with there water
content.
Ciassifid soil for four kinds.
Theory:
Atterber rule.
Definition:
This experment used to determine the propertes
of soil by it is moisturecontent.
Uses:
It is used to find propertes of soil so that help us
to take statement.
It is used to classifid the soils.
Sample Identification:
• In this experment we need amount of clay
• Amount of water.
Equipment:
1) Moisture cans.
2) Porcelain evaporating dish.
3) Spatula.
4) Oven.
5) Balance sensitive up to 0.01g.
6) Plastic squeeze bottle with water.
7) Ground glass plate.

Procedure:
Mixed the soil (CLAY FROM #40) with water to
long time until you feel it is very homogenous.
Take amount of it & move it in your hand.
When you feel it can plastic move it on ground
glass plate.
Stop , when it’s dimeter become = (3mm) .
Weight amount of it( wet soil).

Then put this amount in oven .

After that, weight it (dry soil) & find the
different of those.
Now it is water content is (PL).

• PLASTICITY LIMIT = (WEIGHT OF MOISTURE) /
(WEIGHT OF DRY SOIL)X100
• PI=LL-PL

(2.85 /( 15.31-4.69))X100 = 0.2683 X 100 = 26.83.
• PI = LL – PL =46.5 - 26.83 = 19.67

Discuss the result:
You can see now the important of pl it is like ll in it’s
purpose & idea.
Errors :
• error in weighting.
• error in drying when the organic object is fire.
• Personal error when you don’t sure that amount of soil
is become plasticity (3mm).
important:
you can see now important of this experment & it has
many error so that it needs to accurate.
