STEP BY STEP PROCESS FOR UNDERTAKING AND COMPLETING


DISSERTATION
Step One: Selection of Dissertation Title

The title of the topic should be clear, precise, short and specific in nature and
should not on any account be Company/Brand specific.
In-order to help students in selecting a suitable topic, a list of suggested topics may
be circulated by faculty mentors/ subject faculty of concerned areas. Students can
either select a topic from the list or select a topic of their own. Only one student
would be allowed to pursue a particular topic.

Guidelines for topic selection


Student can opt for a topic of his/her choice, from the area of general management
or from any of the elective streams.
The study must be an empirical one based either on primary or secondary data or
a combination of both.
The statement of the problem should contain brief analysis of the nature of the
problem and the relevance of study so conducted.
Existing studies should be reviewed and gaps in knowledge or information be
brought out. Statement of the problem must provide the rationale for carrying out
the study.

Step Two: Drafting the Synopsis


Format
i. Background of the work
ii. Statement of problem
iii. Research Objectives
iv. Proposed Methodology
v. Limitations of the study

Submission; All students would be required to submit a synopsis of the proposed


study as per the calendar. The synopsis should be finalized only after discussion
with respective Mentor/Faculty Guides.

Evaluation: This would be evaluated by the Faculty Guides as per the distribution
mentioned below.
Information: All students will get their final Synopsis signed by their
Mentors/Faculty Guides and submit the same to them. The Dissertation Calendar
is strictly to be followed for this activity.
Step Three: Interim Evaluation
In-order to ensure a continuous student interaction, Students would be required to
submit an Interim Report to their mentors on the project progress to their and get
the same evaluated as per schedule and prescribed format.

Step Four: Final Report Preparation and Completion Certificate


After the completion of the project, every student will collect a completion certificate
(Annexure VI) from the faculty mentor/guide to certify the completion of
dissertation in all the aspects, followed by submission of spirally bound copies.
by due date as mentioned in the calendar

Step Five: Final Presentation and Viva for Internal Evaluation


A panel of faculty experts will be constituted to evaluate the dissertation and
conduct viva for internal evaluation, as per University guidelines.
It is to be noted that only those students qualify to appear for final internal
viva who submit the completion certificate on time as stated in the calendar.

Step Six: Submission of Hard Copy


After facing the faculty panel for internal Viva, students will incorporate the required
changes suggested by the panel
The final soft copy will be shared with the respective panel members for their
approval.
The respective panel members will confirm the incorporation of changes by writing
an email to concerned Faculty mentor of the student
Two hard bound copies along with one soft copy written on CD, in the prescribed
format as shown in Annexure I to V will be submitted o the Programme coordinator
through faculty Mentors, latest by the due date as mentioned in the calendar.
Formatting and Contents of First Six Pages of the Report
General Instructions

1. Two hard bound copies along-with one soft copy written on a labeled CD is to
be submitted
2. The hard bound cover of the report is required to be black in colour with golden
embossing.
3. The sequence of pages and contents of first five pages are strictly to follow the
details given below;

 The Title page (front cover) and the first page within the report should be
absolutely same (Annexure I). 

 The second page is Acknowledgement page (Annexure II). 


 The third page is Certificate of Originality (Annexure III). 

The fourth page isCertificate by Faculty Mentorconfirming the


completionof Dissertation (Annexure IV).

 The fifth page is the Executive Summary. 




  The next page following the Executive Summary will be the Table of Contents 
(Annexure V). 

4. All the above mentioned pages must be numbered in Roman numbering, viz.
(i), (ii), etc. from first page to table of contents.

5. Report will have pages numbered from the introduction page onwards in
Anglo-Saxon (English) numbers, viz. 1, 2, 3, etc.

Please note that any delay on account of submission or evaluation would result in
a deduction of 20% of the marks allocated to each activity on a per day basis.

Notification

Instructions to the Students who join their jobs before the completion of
the Project
1. The Interim Report can be submitted in soft copy.
2. Though the responsibility of scheduling the same rests on the students
themselves and within the time line as mentioned in the Dissertation calendar.
3. The final report has to be submitted in HARD COPY ONLY. Outstation
students can send the same through courier.
4. The students have to be present in person for Internal and External Viva.

1. Introduction – to include the background of the work and introduction of the


area of research

2. Research objectives - A clear and concise statement of the major


objectives of the work.

3. Hypothesis, if any – It states a proposition to test. However it is not essential


to always have a hypothesis in the research project

4. Literature Review - This includes a review of the literature on the topic, the development
of your position and the development of the hypothesis that you plan to test.

.5. Research Methodology - Gives a clear and concise sequential statement of


the methods that have been used to test the hypothesis, i.e. the methods used for
the collection and analysis of relevant data / information.

6. Data Analysis- This section of the report will carry presentation and analysis of the salient
information that has been gathered in order to test the hypothesis. This section will vary
considerably in both length and content depending on the nature of the topic. It may include
models or systems constructed by the author as a result of the investigation.
Significant features of the results must be clearly indicated. Raw data, if
appropriate, should be presented in appendices.

7. Result Discussion/Findings & Conclusion – This part of the report will


include following
i. Evaluation of the material presented in the result section. Comparison of
result and conclusion with those of previous authors

ii. Reassessment of the hypothesis (if any) and discussion of the broader
implications for management, industry, government organizations or other
appropriate bodies. This section should also include your conclusions.

8. Suggestions/Recommendations – It includes recommendations and suggestions for


further development.
