Teodross Avery

Bridging The Gap: Hip Hop Jazz

Bangin’ beats, funky horns and blistering sax solos jump out of
the speakers on Teodross Avery’s fourth album, Bridging The
Gap: Hip Hop Jazz.

Listeners may already know Avery’s previous releases on

Impulse Records, where he lightly touched on the Hip Hop
Jazz Fusion with Black Thought of The Roots or from his
appearance in the already classic film, Love Jones. From
touring with Mos Def and Lauryn Hill to recording with Talib
Kweli and The Wu-Tang Clan, Avery brings all of his musical
experiences together here on Bridging The Gap: Hip Hop Jazz.

Where in the past Hip Hop Jazz albums have sometimes

sounded forced, Avery fuses the styles and finds just the right
balance. His sax playing, confident and full of fire, speaks
with the spirituality of John Coltrane, the gut bucket of
Stanley Turrentine and the soul of Eddie Harris. Called “One Track Listing:
of the best composers in New York City” by Roy Hargrove, his
songs are original but are still catchy to the common person.
