18K Property Disaster Into Dream Home: HGTV Faces of Design Editors Pick

Stefania Skrabak of Art Home Garden turns an 18K disaster property purchase into a countryside
escape, leading to the HGTV Faces of Design Editor's Pick for 2018.

historic 1800s farmhouse. AHG Principal, Stefania Skrabak picked up the property, nestled deep in the
Catskills, for a paltry $18,000 at auction. The charming farmhouse had been nearly destroyed by a flood
but Skrabak gutted and renovated the property, winning over the design community in the process.
Skrabak's team demolished down to the studs to make way for the new floor plan.

Skrabak's signature style is visible throughout the home with the intertwining of classic farmhouse design
alongside modern, masculine elements, an eclectic fusion she is known for. Her use of locally reclaimed
wood for the beams and shiplap walls bring a rustic and comfortable feel to the home, while soothing
neutrals and crisp, white décor makes it cheerful and inviting. She has woven a cohesive, nature-inspired
blend for the interior throughout the house as seen in details such as the large picture windows and natural
elements like houseplants and faux fur throws.

A newly built small black bungalow sleeps an additional 4 guests and features a bedroom, living space
and kitchenette complete with a coffee bar. The landscape design and illuminated pathway through the
sprawling yard makes the jaunt to the cozy guest cabin a pleasant experience. Vaulted ceilings and large
picture windows bring warmth and space to the tiny house.

Skrabak's use of custom furnishings and select vintage pieces brings the entire property together to make
it an inviting countryside escape.
