CWDM Troubleshooting Procedures
For each troubleshooting please follow each steps from CAS E I to CASE V one by one
1. Query the current alarm management and identify which link (L1R or L2R) reads LOS and No
input power alarm.
Open the NEright click on ETMp cardquery current alarm management
3
CASEIII:GIS (Access Side Problem)
If the NE’s time management query is successful try the next steps.
1. Check the received power levels on both C1R and C2R ports of ETMp card on CWU side
Open the NEright click on ETMp cardoptical power querycheck the
IN(OAC_CTP_So)Query
If one of the received levels is ok then the connection between GIS and ETMp is fine.
2. Check the packet exchange between GIS and ETMp
Open the NEright click on ETMp cardoptical power queryselect GE Tran&Reve from
Policy drop down arrowQuery
3. Take a look on Transmit and Received Packet values by querying repeatedly.
If the received packet value is not changed (stuck on a value) or became zero every time we
queried, it is definitely the GIS problem
MSAGs in Bole, Arada, Addis Ketama, Laghar (Filowoha), Old Airport, Kirkos, Yaka, Sidis Kilo & Nefas Silk
their CWE OAC sides are directly connected to IP Switch. The other MSAGs found in other sites not
mentioned in the above list are connected to IP switch through M900 (DWDM) so you have to check it
first M900 network.
1. Check the received power levels on both C1R and C2R ports of ETMp card on CWE side
4
If the received packet value is not changed (stuck on a value) or became zero every time we
queried, it is definitely the IP problem
1. Check the received power levels on both C1R and C2R ports of ETMp card on CWE side
2. Check the received power level and performance of OCH and OAC Side of the near –end GEM8 card
Open M900 NEright click on appropriate GEM8 cardoptical power querycheck the IN
(OAC_CTP_So) and IN (OCH_CTP_So)Query
And the Queried in put power in both OCH and OAC side and performance value of OCH side is
good, go to the next CASE .if not the problem is definitely in the M900 Network
4. If the Queried value is different from the desired value, repeat the above steps in Far-end GEM8
card. If everything is OK, check the packet exchange between Far-end GEM8 and IP switch.
Open NEright click on Far-end GEM8 cardoptical power queryselect GE Tran&Reve from
Policy drop down arrowQuery
5. If receiving packet value is not changed (stuck on a value) or became zero every time we queried, it
is definitely IP problem
N.B. The Near-end GME8 is found in DWDM ring network named with CWE name. And the Far-end
GME8 is located on sites mentioned in the beginning of CASE IV.
e.g. Lebu MSAGs Near-end GME8 is found in Lebu DWDM. Its far-end GME8 is located in Nefas silk.

Case V: Transmission Problem
If the NE’s time management query is successful try the next steps.
1. Check the received power levels on both L1R and L2R ports of ETMp card on CWU and CWE side
Open the NEright click on ETMp cardoptical power querycheck the
IN(OCH_CTP_So)Query
If one of the received levels is ok in both CWE and CWU side then the connection between CWE
and CWU is fine.
2. Check the packet exchange between GIS and ETMp
Open the NEright click on ETMp cardoptical power queryselect GE Tran&Reve from
Policy drop down arrowQuery
3. Take a look on Transmit and Received Packet values by querying repeatedly.
If the transmit packet value is not changed (stuck on a value) or became zero every time we
queried, it is definitely the Transmission problem
