Selection
1. Select the TVSS Model based on:
a. System voltage (e.g., 480 Vac, 240 Vac, 208 Vac, or 600 Vac)
b. Desired Surge Current Capacity (e.g.,120 kA, 160 kA, or
240 kA). If a Surge Current Capacity higher than 240 kA is
required, more than one TVSS unit can be priced and entered to
the MCC to add up to the desired Surge Current Capacity. When
entering more than one TVSS unit to an MCC, all units should be
mounted in the same section, if possible, and as close as
possible to the MCC incoming main unit.
c. Type of loads to be protected (e.g., branch loads, service
entrance applications, or large individual loads)
d. If backup redundancy is a requirement, two TVSS units should
be priced and entered in the same MCC section and in adjacent
mounting spaces.
2.Select the TVSS Model based on the main power transformer
connection as shown in the figure at left, desired Surge Current
Capacity, and type of loads to be protected.

Notes
• Applications supporting Size 3 and larger starters require an
interposing relay module that is added when PLC interwiring is
selected in Q2C. Note that some applications require interposing
relays on all motor starters, in this case, the relays must be added
manually in Q2C.
• Standard interwiring terminal blocks use #16 TFFN wire.
• If interposing terminal blocks are specified, wiring to the terminals
from the PLC will be #18 TFFN wire.
• Wire labels on interwiring are included.
• Proper features must be added to each motor starter to ensure that
appropriate I/O points are available, i.e. auxiliary contacts, alarm
contacts.
• For networking and system application capabilities, contact MCC
TAG.
