In this article the author educates the audience on mental health issues in student-athletes. They

give background details on the group of people surveyed as well as demographics of the

athletes. The varying risk factors of the students were given such as, loaded schedules,

time management issues, juggling practice and games as well as making time for their

own personal needs. The author also emphasizes that mental health is non-stop and is

consistent regardless of what else they face throughout the day. This article provides an

excellent sense of reliable information as well as the dangers of untreated mental health

or even preventative actions. The evidence given as well as the credibility and examples

will help me support my claim of decreased mental health in student athletes.

information. McCoy gives examples of statistics ran on student athletes with various

demographics and even states that male athletes in high impact sports are 5 times more

likely be successful in suicide attempts. The author also refers to the study he bases his

article off as well as referring to the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

This article provides excellent data and reliable research that will help better my project.

In an article by Ann Davoren and Seunghyun Hwang, mental health in collegiate athletes is

discussed. The authors provide statistical evidence as well as data from surveys

throughout the years. They explain the risky behaviors that are more prominent in “high

risk” student athletes. Demographics as well as if they participated in sports were

included in the survey which gave validity as well as reliability in the research. Not only

did they talk about common mental health issues but they included those most people

don’t think about. This article will help me put the data as well as the facts into

consideration. It will provide background research and will help me support my evidence.

In a study by T.L. Narasimha Reddy and S. Ammani, they explore the ideas of meditation and

yoga in stress reduction. They provide statistical evidence on how their study was run,

including when, who and how. Reddy and Ammani also included sources and other

articles that correlate with this evidence and back it up. Including the physiological

damages stress causes on your body is crucial to wanting to treat and prevent large

amounts of stress. The authors reported that yoga is as beneficial to decreasing stress,

depression anxiety and improving overall health as well as simple relaxation. This study

will help me understand the basics of yoga as well as a background on both meditation

and yoga. It’ll also help inform me of all the way stress can affect the body which is

essential to most athletes.

motivation to reach out for help. Most athletes are seen to ask for help from those within

the athletic system and that shows a lot as well. This case study will improve my

knowledge on what athletes thing and how they deal with their issues. It will also give me

insight on the different stigmas as well as how outsiders deal with these issues.
