NUMBER OF SESSIONS: 6 sessions

This didactic unit will consist in 6 sessions of the subject of natural science but we may use
one or two sessions of the English class in order to have more time to read properly the picture
book Horton Hears a Who!.

AREAS: Science

This educational project is based on a natural science topic but it will be linked to the English
subject because through this didactic unit the students will learn new structures that they will
be helpful in a future.

The role of the teacher in this didactic unit will be most of the time a monitor but in some
cases it will be the “leader” because is the teacher who tells the story to the students even
though the students come up with some questions during the reading time.

• To be able to link the animal characteristics with the humans’ ones

• To use ICT in order to show to the world their learning outcomes

Cognition In this didactic unit, the students will have to create a deck of cards
(that it is the final outcome). With an image of an animal they will
have to write a whole description explaining the main characteristics
of that animals. Furthermore, they will also have to link the animal
characteristics with the human’s one to create a card.

On the other hand, in the book Horton Hears a Who! Appears


characters calls Who that they will have to invent which are the main
features of this fantastic creatures.

Culture With this didactic unit, I pretend to open the students’ eyes in order
to make them think that we have to take care of our planet and all the
living things that live in our world. This is also the moral of the book.

FINAL OUTCOME:

The final outcome of this project is to create a deck of animals cards. Nowadays kids are 6
obsessed with football cards or fairies cards so the final outcome of this educational project
will be the creation of cards. Each card will be a different animal and it will contain the main
characteristics of the animal applying all the knowledge of the didactic unit. Once they have
the cards they can play it.
