-lack of faith...And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith (Matt. 13:58 NIV)

- what is little faith...If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow
is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? (Matt. 6:30 NIV)

-little faith...He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the
winds and the waves, and it was completely calm (Matt. 8:26 NIV)

THE BOOK OF MARK

Papias states that he received oral tradition from John the elder and apostle, and he passes on the
following regarding Mark: (1) he was the writer for Peter; (2) he wrote down accurately as much as he
could remember of Peter's words, which the latter had adapted to the needs of the moment; (3) he
was not an eyewitness of Jesus, nor a disciple (but see note on Mark 14:52); and (4) it was his desire
not to omit or misrepresent anything. Papias concluded that the Gospel of Mark gains its apostolic
and reliable character from its Petrine origin.

He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."

"Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along
the road. (Mk. 10:52 NIV)

- Faith that something happened, faith that something is happening, faith that something is going
to happen
- Faith that something happened. Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in
him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they
 would be put out of the synagogue (Jn. 12:42 NIV). Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they
were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those
who had seen him after he had risen. (Mk. 16:14 NIV)
- Faith that something is happening. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still
have no faith?" (Mk. 4:40 NIV). The faith was not that Jesus was going to save them. The faith
was that they were going through a test.
- “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as
though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in
the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed (1 Pet. 4:12-13
NIV)”
- Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will
receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. (Jas. 1:12 NIV)
- Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" "Have
faith in God," Jesus answered (Mk. 11:21-22 NIV)

Faith that something is going to happen. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man,
"Son, your sins are forgiven." (Mk. 2:5 NIV)

- I’ll get the healing and more. Once you start moving you will not stop. Momentum faith.
Revelatory faith.
- Faith gives you momentum. He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few
sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went around
teaching from village to village (Mk. 6:5-6 NIV)
