President’s Corner
I want to first thank all the members from both the men and ladies who participated at our Annual
Club Officers Meeting, and for the opportunity to serve as the club president for a 2nd term. Congratulations also goes t
Mike Caravakis to all the officers for being re-elected as well to serve for a 2nd term. Special thanks to John Hanna and his
President crew for his great meal!
Ghassan Najm I want to also thank the board for the continued support throughout the year and look forward to
Vice President addressing some issues and plans for a stronger year for our club. Many thanks to the Committee
Leaders and members for their continued efforts.

Secretary VP Ghassan Najm helped boost Our Friday Night Activity with a special evening of great food and music
in our hall last month that had record attendance.

Asst. Secretary Mark Chory continues to look for ways of saving money for the club and is now looking at the
assessment of the property and regular monthly expenses.

Treasurer We will form a committee as was stated at The Annual Meeting to evaluate the specific needs of our
building, and then see if a plan can be in place for a complete list of items that should be worked on. John
Mark Chory Ashkar along with additional members will look into this over the next several weeks.

Directors invited guests to enjoy the festivities and from that we have new members joining. It was well attended,
Ray Antous and I hope everyone had a good time.

Here it is February already and there are still remnants of Christmas decorations around. I’m convinced that there is something to
Global Warming, but I am thoroughly convinced that time is speeding up. In my younger days a month seemed to take forever to
pass, but now a month is just a blink of an eye! Enough of my issues, newsletter issues are next. Advertising ad payments are
slow to come in, if you haven’t sent in your payments please do so a.s.a.p., if you have thank you for your payments. Without
your support this newsletter could not exist.
Congratulations to our elected officers, Pres. M. Caravakis, V.P. Ghassan Najm, Secretary J. Glynn 111, Treasurer W. Asmar,
Asst. Treasurer M. Chory. All are returning officers and we thank them for their continued service to our Club. Please let’s
stand behind them and help them in the operation of OUR CLUB.
We are still waiting for members to submit some news, requests, announcements, celebrations, or whatever to share with our

Anyone interested in serving on the Board of Directors this year, please see any of the club officers as soon as possible as the
new Directors will be appointed at the next Board of Directors Meeting, February 5th.
The cat is out of the bag - February 20th, Pasta Night, the main dish will be homemade LASAGNA, don’t tell anyone I told you
Congratulations to Major Thomas J. Saadi, for being re-nominated for the Commissioner of the Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs by
the new administration of Governor Ted Lamond. As a result, Mr. Saadi, decided to resign from the Danbury city council, also
in part of the increased demand of his military service. We thank Tom for his service to the City of Danbury, and wish well in
his continued service to the Veterans of the state of CT.
Congratulations to Louis and Christina on the Birth of their son Louis IV on November 8 th, 2018. The proud grandparents are
Louis and Beverly Lahoud.
Congratulations to VP Ghassan Najm on reaching life time, life saving blood donations milestone of 8 Gallons or 64 Pints on
January 23. It is estimated to have benefited equivalent of ~200 people. There is always need for Blood donations. We
encourage our members, those who lead healthy lives, and eligible to donate, to follow our VP and other members examples. It
is one of the easiest ways that you could contribute to saving lives. In the process you get to have a primary health check every
2 months. If you have not done so, you can take the first step at signing up at www.redcrossblood.org, to see if you are eligible.
Health and Welfare:
Please keep in your prayers our ill members and/or their family members and wishing them speedy recovery specially Ron
Antous and Ed Jowdy. Notify Pres. Mike Caravakis, whenever a member falls seriously ill by sending an email to
caravakis@aol.com.

Ladies Auxiliary News by President Betty Najm
It was wonderful to see so many members attend the annual meeting. We welcome two new members, Mahera
Assal and Judy Coco, to the Ladies Auxiliary!
Thank you to John Hanna and his team for the wonderful meal that was prepared for all of the club members.
Thank you to Stacey Hardway, the Telephone chairperson and all her Captains for a job well done this past year.
Toni Glynn has offered to become the new Telephone chairperson. Please contact Toni if your contact info has

Thank you to Victoria Beylouni for chairing the Holiday Luncheon at the Black Angus. We enjoyed a wonderful
meal and great service! Betty Yamin was presented with a Proclamation from the Mayor of Danbury for her
birthday by her daughter-in-law, Dianne. Happy Birthday and Best Wishes from all of us, Betty!
Mary Elizabeth and I will be hosting a Cultural event at the club on March 23. We are hoping to have Professor El
Eid present a Historical background about Lebanon and the Middle East. We would invite all the club members and
their families to learn about Lebanon. We would love to continue to host these events to highlight the food and rich
culture of the different regions of Lebanon.
The Ladies Auxiliary meetings will be on Tuesday at 7 PM on:
Feb. 12, March 12, April 9, May 21 and June 18
The Middle Eastern Buffet benefiting the Scholarship fund will be held Thursday, May 2nd at 6:30 PM. Members
interested in donating a prize for the raffle, please contact me.
