and time. The students will learn how the vegetation on earth affects them and how important it is to their
health.
Representation: Each student will learn how plants affect their life personally. They will understand the
connections between pollution and themselves.
Action and Expression: The students will plant their own plant (flower) and be able to explain why plants
make a difference in their lives.

Instructional Software
The BrainPop video will serve as a source of information about the effects of humans on the environment.
It will address new and arising problems that the earth faces. The teacher will lead a discussion on how this
makes us feel and what we, as humans can do to better affect the earth. The teacher will then have the
students split into groups and challenge the students to compose a list of ways to better their community.
After compiling their list, each student will receive a flower seed. As a group, we will plant a garden of
flowers in front of the school. The students will then write a reflection on the way they felt after planting a
plant in their own community and encourage others to do the same.
Reflective Practice:
This project can show the students that they need to care about the community around them. Extending this
project may include having the students beautify the school in other ways. They can pick up trash and place
mulch around the building to help improve the way it looks. This could also include having my students
encourage other students around the school to clean up after themselves. This could also become an art
project, with a mural idea done by the students, that brightens up an area of the school.
