INTERNET PRIVACY

BRIEF

After the Facebook/ Cambridge Analytica scandal, people are thinking about their privacy online more than ever. However, not many people fully understand how to protect their right to privacy and anonymity on the internet. Design something to educate people about staying protected online.

SOLUTION

An educational leaflet describing the main tools that can be freely used to stay protected online. This would include things like VPN, Tor and encryption.

GREENER CHOICES

BRIEF

Seemingly everything these days comes wrapped in plastic, even food produce that comes in its own natural packaging. Find a way to encourage consumers to make greener choices while out shopping

SOLUTION

A new rating system that grades products on a scale of 0-10 based on how environmentally friendly they are. This would include production, recyclability, and how harmful the materials are. Having this rating displayed on products would help push consumers to buy greener alternatives to their usual purchases.

SOMETHING FROM NOTHING

BRIEF

One of the biggest offenders when it comes to unsustainable design is toys. They are often manufactured using too many different materials, plastics that cannot be recycled and hard to get to electronic components. This creates problems when it comes to recycling. Find a way to encourage more sustainable design for toys for younger children.

SOLUTION

An app that hosts user-submitted instructions to create new toys out of common household packaging waste (tins, bottles, boxes etc.). This would show children that just because something has completed its initial purpose, that doesn’t mean it can’t then be used to create something new.

CONNECTED

CORNWALL

BRIEF

Promote the growing technology sector in Cornwall to make it seem like the new ‘Silicon Valley’.

SOLUTION

A website based visual directory of companies in the region. This would allow consumers to connect with them, businesses to talk to each other and see what’s around them, and also encourage people to rent or buy property to set up their own business.

PUBLICATION

BRIEF

We were given content for a publication to be handed out at a typography convention. we were tasked with putting it all together, editing and laying out the text, and creating numerous gallery responses to the articles inside.

SOLUTION

My response was to keep any illustrations fun and text-related, but also minimalistic to reduce oany distraction from the actual text.

To reflect the serious and refined sound we were going for in the music, I made use of sharp lines and thin typefaces.

PERSONAL

BRANDING

BRIEF

To create a brand that represents ‘outside the box’ thinking. I wanted a versatile logo, colour scheme, business cards and an online presence.

SOLUTION

To illustrate this ‘outside the box’ thinking, I made my logo look like a physical box. It can also represent building ideas and creativity. I also made my business cards to be folded out into cubes. This makes them easier to display and makes them stand out.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

You will very rarely see Amy without her trusty sidekick, Mills (pet pooch and office maître d’). A self-professed wannabee interior designer, Amy splits her time between Newmarket and the bright lights of Birmingham. An indie chick at heart with a love of succulents, all things copper and a lovely cup of tea, this Miss is soon to become a Mrs! (With a little help and support from her GG’s of course!)

When she’s not at work, you’ll find Mikaela either in another country or planning her next trip. If it sparkles, is pineapple shaped or has a flamingo print she’s probably got it. Ever the social butterfly, Mikaela loves getting the opportunity to meet new faces and will never turn down a G&T or two!

BRIEF

To redesign the Granary Estates ‘Blog’ and ‘Meet the Team’ pages. They should be keeping with the existing brand.

SOLUTION

Granary Estates uses a very minimalist aesthetic to convey a respectable image. I created an easily navigable blog and minimal ‘Meet the Team’ page that aims to make the best use of space whilst not being overcrowded.

MISSION

STATEMENT

To provide accommodation, support, advice, training

and resettlement services to single homeless people in

Cornwall. Within the resources available we strive to

provide the best quality of service possible. Our primary

aim is to provide these services to people aged 16–65

years and for whom no provision is made within the

community, either statutory or otherwise.

We believe in

Assessing each person’s needs on an individual basis

and arranging care and support accordingly, pioneering

innovative services if appropriate.

Providing our dedicated staff with support and training

of a high professional and practical quality. We strive for

equal opportunity in our employment processes.

Ensuring equality of access and opportunity for

all sections of the community, a policy of non

discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexual

orientation, religion or political beliefs. We actively

promote the employment of people with personal

experience of homelessness.

Aiming for effective and representative consumer,

purchaser and community involvement in service

provision and delivery at all levels.

Developing networks and partnerships with other

voluntary and statutory agencies in order to ensure

the social and health care needs of our clients are fully

understood and addressed by a comprehensive range

of services.

We never give up!

VOLUNTEERING
VOLUNTEERING

At St Petroc’s Society we have long considered the

role of volunteers to be an important one. The value to

the organisation and service provision to our clients is

immeasurable.

In recent years we have sought to improve our recruitment

of volunteers and extend their role across our services

throughout Cornwall. We have introduced better inductions,

mentoring, training and on-going support and appraisals.

Each volunteer brings with them their own personality

and individuality with their own unique blend of skills,

experience, creativity and personal interests. Put all of

the volunteers together with a strong, committed and

experienced staff team and you have something that is

very special — vibrancy, energy and talent — to enhance

and develop our services.

There is no such thing as “just a volunteer” at

St Petroc’s.Volunteers are well respected and of equal

value within the team.

BASIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS

All volunteer opportunities are probationary for three months

and subject to a DBS check which we will pay for.Volunteers

will also be reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses incurred

within the volunteer role. This includes travel at 45p per mile if

using your own vehicle and/or full refund of public transport costs.

“It’s like being part of a family. We all look after each other. I’m learning new skills all the time and have more confidence now.”

“Everyone has been so welcoming and I love coming to work!”

“I always wanted to do something to make a difference in my community but I wasn’t sure if I would have the right skills and was a bit nervous at first. The team have been so helpful and supportive and I really feel I have a new career path now.”

During 2016/17 86 volunteers and students gave 3463 hours of their time!

COULD YOU BE A VOLUNTEER?

Do you like helping people?

Do you have some free time you’d like to make use of in

your community?

Do you like talking to people?

Are you a good listener?

Are you looking for work experience to enhance your

skills and CV?

Do you have hobbies and interests you could share with

others?

Can you make a good cup of tea?

Are you creative with art, graphic design or photography?

Do you like a good social life and meeting people?

Our fundraising events are great for this!

We have many different roles to offer but very often,

volunteers are recruited for their personal skills, interests

and hobbies and together, we create a role which inspires

others and enhances our services. If you think you might

be interested in volunteering and would like to discuss

opportunities, please contact Lois Wild.

FRIENDS OF ST PETROC’S

St Petroc’s have groups of Friends in Truro, Newquay, Bodmin and

Falmouth who support the work in the houses. They do this by

organising several fundraising events throughout the year.

The money they raise helps support residents to gain access to

training, a home start pack for when they move on, help with a

deposit – in fact the possibilities are endless as this very much

depends on individual needs. The money also helps to maintain the

fabric of the accommodation.

We are looking to develop Friends groups in other locations

around the county, so if you feel you could contribute, we would

love to hear from you. If you would like to become involved with

a Friends group or would like more information, please see the

contact details overleaf.

BRIEF

To replace their information leaflet with something that fits modern standards, and generally looks more professional and polished.

SOLUTION

Their last leaflet was produced on Microsoft Office, so I wanted to make something much more attractive for the charity. They insisted that all the text be kept from the previous leaflet, and there’s a lot of it, so that was a challenge. I think this is a great piece that really reflects the charity.

EASY BEAN STUDIO 1850

BRIEF

This project involved creating packaging for two new flavours to the Easy Bean crispbread range. The aesthetic existed

from previous flavours, but

had to be made for the new flavours. Some promo material was required, (banner ads, tasting mats for events and web features like the one above).

new designs

SOLUTION

This was one of the very first pieces of work to actually get manufactured, so that was incredibly satisfying. The design had to keep within the constraints of the existing image, however I’m still proud of it.
