The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge is more necessary for
a student. But our academic study is limited in theories. The educational perfectness
depends on practical knowledge. The business of the world is sure to be changing by
character in this century. Today the world performs practical knowledge to theoretical
knowledge. For this reason an industrial tour program is added for the student of BBA of
the business administration, the University of Chittagong. After completing the 4th year
final examination of BBA program, every students get opportunities to make industrial
tour to make them closer to the business world both theoretically & practically. In this
way, we already have visited “Four H Apparels Ltd” here we observed that theoretical
study should be supported by practical study.

After the acquisition of both academic that is theoretical education as well as practical
education, we must have to know the process of applying this knowledge in the complex
situation of practical life.

2.8 Working environment that found:

Visiting at four h group was a great experience for me. I have learnt many things from
them. From my little knowledge what i have observed and some recommendations are as
follows:
It was very interesting working at a garments industry. The people there are really nice
and talented. The things that i have noticed and observed are:

 Work environment is very friendly and employees are co-operative.

 Employees are active and sincere to their assigned job responsibilities.
 Work is never left pending for the next day unless it is absolutely necessary.
 The work process could be made faster with better computers and operating
systems.
 There is always a rush of customers so there is no standard on what the
employees do throughout the day. The work activities of an employee are set, but
what to do when varies along the day.
 The work activities are always set and divided for each of the employees. This is
the way it should be, but when i saw it firsthand it was remarkable. Each and
every employee has a certain set of responsibilities. He/she carries out those
responsibilities throughout the day. It is also easy to assign duties that way. Even
though this is the case, I often saw other staff members helping each other out.
 There is less coordination between casual staffs like tea boy, peon and cleaner

Cutting devices/equipment should be selected and used with maximum accuracy. A

slight change in cut results in huge fitting problems. These tools must be selected and
maintained properly in order to use them effectively. There are several devices prevailing
in four apparels limited are following:

1. Cutting table and cutting board: A cutting table is 6′ long, 4′ wide and 3′ height.
People working in a standing position use the table and people who work sitting use a
cutting board. It has 30 cutting tables and 10 cutting board

2. Cad machine: It has a different room for making marker, where two automated
computer design machines are using for making marker which decreases the wastage of
fabric, very simple lay out within short time.

3. Band knife cutting machine & automated cutting machine: It has 10 band knife
machines. Which are very useful such as:
 Suitable for any types of line.
 Very large productivity for limited products, such as collars, cuff, placket, etc.
 Automatic grinder grinds the knife instantly.
 Possible to cut 90° angle of the lay.
 Intensity of accident is low

It has a automated cutting machine, which decreases time consuming, cost of labor,
increases efficiency and following:
 Suitable for large component
 Work load is low
 Running cost is low
 Do not require fix space.
 Possible to cut fabric directly.
 Possible to cut fabric directly from lay.

4. Stationary rack: It has 3 stationary rack. This machine has basically two uprights
fixed at the end of the table. A steel bar is passed through the fabric roll and two

spreaders then smooth out any ridges or wrinkles in the fabric.

5. Automatic rolling rack: It has 1 automatic rolling rack which has a drive motor and
end switches that allow the machine to automatically drive itself from beginning to the

Challenges and Recommendations

4.1 Challenges faced by Four H Apparels Limited

The major problems that are confronted by this company in case of fabric inspection,
storage and cutting department are given below-

 Rent of land is too high. As day by day the demand for land is increasing
specially in Chittagong city, it increases the rental cost of factory which
decreases the area that needed for production as well as storage.

 High cost of heavy machineries. As all automated machine are purchasing

from abroad, the cost of machine is too high. That’s why capital investment
is too high that influence to take decision for new technology.

 Sometimes after delivering the final product from factory, the CEPZ or
merchandiser authority do not clearance the permit for shipment. When we
visited that factory, director of the Four H Group were come to that factory
because two truck of delivered product were back to the factory.

 Occasionally the company faces problems after collection of raw materials.

For example, fabric quality doesn’t match with quality. That’s why it has to
back that raw material to that origin country which increases purchasing cost
