Dear Sir/Ma’am:
Warm greetings!
We are pleased to inform you that our GIS training course for beginners has once again opened. The conduct of this
capacity building event in the past two years had really been successful, being able to train more than 200 professionals
coming from LGUs, private sectors and academe in different regions of the country.
Now, on our 6th Basic GIS Training, we are aiming to capacitate more individuals for sound decision-making thru the
aid of GIS. The training will help you get started working with GIS through discussions and hands-on exercises on basic
theories, applications, analysis, and visualization. It will be facilitated by our company, Geographic Innovations for
Development Solutions, Inc. (GrIDS, Inc.), a Filipino owned and managed consultancy firm engaged in fields of, but
not limited to, GIS; remote sensing (RS) and image processing; 3D mapping; natural resources management; and
environmental planning.
The emergence of Geographic Information System (GIS) has provided new frontiers in the planning aspect, offering
a more flexible and cost-effective application than the conventional planning systems. This tool, which uses spatial data
in providing information for crafting sound decisions has been significant on disaster risk reduction and management,
scientific and social researches, policy-making, development planning, among others.
Attached are the course outline and information sheet for this training activity. Once we have your accomplished
information sheet, you will receive an acceptance letter and will be given the payment procedure.
Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us through our email address
(grids.inc.ph@gmail.com) or mobile number (+63 995 435 3101/ 0999 177 4655).
Respectfully yours,
- COURSE OUTLINE -
RATIONALE
Geographic information system (GIS) is an indispensable tool that uses spatial data to generate needed information in
crafting cost effective and science-based decisions. It bridges the gap between the scientific community, policy makers,
and the general public, thus bringing each in a common level conducive for crafting sound decisions. The seemingly
endless applications of GIS make it an indispensable tool for professionals working on various fields including natural
resources management, social researches, disaster risk reduction and management, development planning, and policy
making.
In response to the increasing needs and interests from various groups to know more about GIS and its potential
applications, GrIDS, Inc. is offering its 4th GIS training for beginners using open source GIS software packages. GrIDS,
Inc. aims to provide and enhance individuals’ capacity to execute GIS operations, perform data encoding and analysis,
and create and implement GIS-based workflows.
TRAINING DESCRIPTION
The GIS Training for Beginners aims to help participants get started with GIS through classroom lectures and
discussions for basic theories and concepts enhanced with training exercises, data gathering and map layout. The
training will use the current version of QGIS (version 3.4), a free and open-source GIS software. Training manuals and
datasets will be provided.
